I wish it were possible to volunteer for a layoff package.

Discuss.

Op here.

Sticks and stones, sticks and stones...

Most people at WHQ are entitled, get over it.

My point is that I have worked hard, for years, to contribute. Lately it's been impossible to get work done, and it's not because people are working from home, it's because nobody has is aligned to what little strategy we have, there is political infighting, power-grabbing, and kingdom building going on with my senior "leadership" and their peers in organizations that ought to be cooperating rather than infighting.

They have made the ability for us to be productive and happy little droogs almost impossible.

My point is that if I'm going to have the leave the company to escape the incredible disfunction within it, they ought to be somehow financially responsible for that.

I'd hate to end up leaving for free with their only loss being my experience and expertise. It ought to cost them some cash, if the universe was fair. As was mentioned, it would be great if Nike, like, say, Intel, asked for volunteers when layoffs were about to happen...

I have no limit of sympathy for people who were forced out, were shown the door. That happened to me early in my career and it was a terrible experience.

How arrogant to want to volunteer for layoff! If you are unhappy then leave! This is a site about LAYOFFS, meaning lots of hard working people were blind sided and lots their jobs and now STILL unemployed and here you are wanting a free handout and taking a package you don’t deserve. Go do the hard work and find a new job!!

If you think you can walk away Scot free after volunteering to leave, you must be delusion.

If you have a good relationship with your manager I would make mention of it.
No manager likes to let a person go. Not only is it difficult to inform a person but they are also losing a head count.
As an E band I would prefer to know who would be up for it.

Don't. As someone who was laid off and still unemployed it is miserable. Be grateful for your current employment.

@ehg, take a long PTO and don’t answer emails while on vacation is encouraged by many modern companies. I give work 110% every day but my PTO is my PTO

At a previous company they asked for volunteers - and 8 out of the 12 people who had been ordained "the future leaders of the company" volunteered and jumped ship.

They did not ask for volunteers after that.

it is possible. attend less meetings or leave earlier. miss some deadlines. don't always get along just to get along. take a long pto and don't answer emails. as long as you don't take it overboard someone will put your name on the layoff candidate list when the time comes, which seems to be every other month now.
