I started my career in the 90s. Things were much simpler back then and the benefits were outstanding. Now, I wake up each morning hoping I will be employed another day and when I get home I am thankful that I’m one step closer to retirement (I plan to retire early at 52). After all the changes T has gone through I don’t know if I’ll be that lucky but I hope I am.

What nonsense from Trumpies. The stock market went from 7900 to almost 20,000 under Obama. If you retired in the Trump years most of your gains came from the Obama stock market.
Just like unemployment which went from 7.8 under Bush to 4.8 under Obama. Then it goes down another simple point and a half under Trump and they declare him the unemployment king.
Sounds about like that Trump supporter who said looking at the film of Jan 6, it just looked like a quiet visit to the Capitol.

I retired at 50. Took my 401 & pension buyout and invested it right after Obama Head left office.
All of my funds rocketed 100's of % with Trump.
Best decision of my life, took my millions, bought a 2nd home, a few cars, european vacations, fine dining and plan to live out my life without t services, or the daily frustrations brought on by subordinates, co-workers and (cough, cough) !@@#$#supervisors.

To OP: Retire at 52? I hope it's just from T and not completely. You have a long time 'til Social Security kicks in and better have tons of money invested to survive without a job. Plus average cost of living will be increasing not less than 2% per year an possible 3%+. However, health care increases at 7%. Don't count on T to be paying for that forever.
God bless all you who are near the retirement. I hope it works out for. I worked for different telecoms but hope the workers hit their mark. No matter what happens the people who snuck their way to the top are not impacted like the WORKER! Good luck, I will be in you position in a decade or 2 and just want to pay some luck forward! I got out of telecom and am doing something completely different where consolidation is not likely for the reasons you fear. Since there is little growth and customers just swing around the telecom triangle there is no need for so many layers. In general, retail scares me unless you know how to code. I just hope you continue to provide for your families and have a little fun along the way. Peace to all, hang in there pre retirees!
