Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nike is for people who don’t expect much

Do you agree?
When I came to Nike I was much younger, ambitious, eager for new knowledge and advancement. But back then, Nike was a completely different company. I would never have come to Nike as it is today if I were a young person with great ambitions and a desire for a good career.

It’s not just the hours that defines if a job is easy or difficult. How many of us get to truly meaningful, challenging work that helps us to grow professionally and that is not about managing politics or stakeholder opinions that don’t even matter? Most directors or Sr directors don’t have the authority to make any decisions. Worker bees are preferred to just execute and pretend they work long hours and they are almost guaranteed to receive a HS rating at year end.
I definitely agree that the real jobs out there are a lot of challenging / interesting. They require real problem solving and new value creation.

For those of you claiming you have “easy” jobs, you really should understand that YOUR job is not even remotely representative of all jobs at Nike. I find it amusing when people think that because THEY have a cake job, that must be the case for everyone else too. Are some of you really that clueless?

If your work in corporate support functions for example there’s a very good chance you’re routinely working 60 hour weeks because you’re feebly trying to do a job that should be done by 2 people. Your workload is outright oppressive and taking PTO is almost impossible.

Yet some of you are “bored” because your job is too “easy”? LOL!

If you only knew...

Nike is best at "throw away work." Lots of work done, long hours and then someone doesn't like the person who headed the team or felt intimidated by them, the work is thrown away.

Very low expectations. Nike wouldn't recognize a high performer if they were slapped in the face by said performer.

I'm on a high-performance team, and we barely get a chance to rest.

On the other hand, some teams take it very slow and deliver at a snail's pace.

YMMV

Nike employees need to accept that they do 50% less work than other companies and just ride the profit wave or leave and have to work harder somewhere else. Nike sucks, but it’s EASY.

Agree. I came from a fast paced company and was bored out of my mind at Nike. Quickly quit and landed in another role where I’m much more engaged. Nike looked great on the outside. Inside, it’s a big unproductive mess.
