Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

new Interview at a position.

As a ETW working in technology, I'm coming up at the end of my " contract". My boss has indicated there aren't any future plans to " extend" my contract. I got a interview for a full time position with a bank, I asked for a 25k pay increase. I love my team at Nike, great comradery.... It seems assine that I have a shelf life.. I had a great plans for Nike, learned alot along the way. It seems that Nike is keen on the rotating door of ETW's and keeping costs down vs a quality employee. ETW's really a second class citizen. My medical insurance is a joke.

Do I have Stockholm syndrome for considering to stay on Nike? ( different role) What are the perks besides virtue signaling Kool-aid drinking?

It seems like the path forward is the " follow the sun model" what irritated me was when foreign FTE's got hired they had access Swoosh and being able to purchase Nike merch online, while I couldn't.. Only the VAN. I tried buying myself a pair of shoes and couldn't. That was a huge wake up call on how Nike view's ETW's. The fact they've deny American workers the ability as a contractor to buy shoes online.

Not knocking the foreign FTE's. Globalism is preached as this " great benefit" when in reality you're hurting your own fellow countryman. Pure manipulation and virtue signaling.

I appreciate your guys's advice. First chance I get, I'm out. Nike really needs to look in the mirror and understand how their stakeholder business model or trickle up is going to fail. It doesn't matter how much virtue signaling and smoke mirrors you throw at your employees.

ETW is sadly not a “career” path at Nike. We will string you out and use you up, but the coveted “headcount” you hear about will be the carrot that only the most self-sacrificial lambs (think mental health and hours in the day) will reach. Nike knows the lifespan of an ETW contract, and if you don't make an impact that your manager can lean into in that timeframe, then your value in the eyes of the org is similar to an intern. Here today, gone tomorrow. I would never take an ETW role without a clear, measurable track to an FTE position. If you leave it to chance, chances are you'll be overworked and underpaid without the perks of people next to you performing the same or similar work. Nike is also not a place you're going to find equal pay for equal work.

Please do yourself a favour and take that job. You have to remember that this is a company and they do not care about you but only their bottom line. As an L band i already see Nike for what is is, so I can imagine it being worse for an etw.

Nike does not pay market comp for black badge or ETWs. Take the money and run with your new offer. Portland metro is small enough market where everyone knows people like to do a tour of duty at Nike to peek behind the curtain but anyone who stays for a long time is generally not capable of being hired into comparable role at any other company.

Former long term ETW here and agree that it's a totally degrading experience. ETWs do a majority of the actual work but your second class status means FTEs will often see the "ETW" in your email address and ignore you, forcing you to have to escalate just to get your work done. And there's nothing like getting team emails meant for FTEs only and realizing how much more information they have access to as well as the perks they enjoy. The best has to be being asked to leave meetings because the "grown ups" need to discuss things that you can't be privy to, despite being at Nike for years.

Seriously, get out while you can. I spent way too long as an ETW thinking if I just jumped every time my manager told me to I would get converted. If your recruiter tells you that hard work will pay off they are feeding you a load of BS.
