Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

When will they announce PIPs

I understand 10% of us will be PIPed. When will they announce the PIPs?

Have you ever piped someone? You lose a lot of sleep over it, especially when it is unfair. Staring at someone who is in tears asking what they did wrong is no fun. That is why the typical percentage lay-off should not be disguised as a performance improvement plan.

They absolutely should pip based on a percentage.

Getting pip'd was the best thing that ever happened to me professionally after getting hired by xom out of college. I am a white male who went technical and got vested right before I took pil. I knew the writing was on the wall when I dared to use my PPTO 8 week "benefit".

I've seen people get angry, scared, arrogant, etc on this board. Totally natural and understandable. Remember your talents are worth what the market is willing to pay for. XOM isn't infallible they hire and fire people when others in the marketplace may have done something totally different. Remember what dw said in 2017, xom zigs while everyone else zags.

I'm now at a totally different company getting great feedback and a nice recent raise. My company is allowing us to work from home indefinitely so life is peachy.

Good luck to everyone, it's not about the destination but the journey!

Just like all the categories there is a forced percentage for PIP. Only the distinction category doesn’t have a required number.

They should not PIP on the basis of a percentage. A PIP means you need intervention to continue employment because of your absolute performance not relative performance. This classification loses all credibility when there is a target percentage.

How many days did you have to work after notification of NSI and acceptance of PIL?

July 17th for me last year. Expect the same timeframe this year.

Oh, ya. I took the PIL. Didn’t play the PIP game. Saw the layoffs for what they were.

Have moved on. GTFO Houston and work a nice paying WFH job.

Almost feel sorry for my old coworkers. Almost.

Yes last year it was around july aug. They are getting us placed in the buckets they want. Our eads was pushed up a few days and the sup said HR needs those early. exxon wants people off the books by end of year so the earlier the better for them.

Years of no raises if you don’t get fired first!

Better to just quit and move in. I did.

In the summer. HR has to review and check for bias after the ranking this month.

Look around there isn’t any fat left to trim. Everyone is going down in ranking this year. People gonna be pi---d and quit after this.

Years of no raises will follow as lower ranking means lower salary curve.
