Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Get used to the new normal

For the last 20 years EM has been a fantastic company to work for....now it has forever changed.

For anyone who thinks things are going to get better at EM, I have some news for you....it wont. The treatment of employees today is the new normal.

The company is at peace with itself for treating you like $hit, therefore get used to it. Even senior exec folks are also being treated like this as well....I know plenty who are totally disillusioned with EM.

I complained recently about an unfair policy change, and got told to be quiet...company knows its unfair but 'under current circumstances' company ( a.k.a. DW ) has no choice and maybe it could have been worse for us as we could have had a salary cut as well.

So, fairness is out of the window, and so is my loyalty.

The consequence of treating me like $hit is that I will no longer put myself out for the company, advocate for it, buy its products or do anything else that I was basically doing for free up until now.

I will be milking this company and giving nothing in return other than the bare minimum to keep me out of the 8% and as soon as I can jump ship I am out.

Best thing I ever did was leave XOM. Got a better job, better pay, better benefits, better retirement plan, healthcare, 980, relaxed culture, and I don’t get treated like a child (eg hold the handrail). None of you know what’s it’s like outside the xom bubble because xom only hires out of school and people stay for life. It’s a big industry. XOM is no longer at the center of it.

Forever Changed.
That's a very good tune by Lou Reed and John Cale about Andy Warhol.
Andy Warhol - the dude that painted that mural that Rockefeller had destroyed.
That's my drunk history version of this dying company.

You should just leave. Like you said many are leaving. Why put up with it?

What was the policy that you complained about?

I have to correct an entry from below - being from Curitiba office, I must do this all the time.
It is not 'Bowel-No-Sorrow'.
It is 'Bowel-So-Narrow'.
And indeed - if a choice between EM and he, there is no contest.
EM worse.

One good thing about a poorly run organization - you can indeed milk it like a soylent sow from every t!t. I've been doing that for 5 years on, and sowing discord along the way.
(If there is discontent in Curitiba - it ain't Bowel-No-Sorrow. It's me I can tell you.)

And DW got nothing to do with it - he's a consultant's concubine.
It's Me.
Made it to retirement (58 / 15) this year and ready to roll for a few more.

Hope you guess my name... and sp-t me out.
Who's number one and still on the Dow(l)?

@vnn+1aRIEsEF if you frequent these post daily. You would see the OP saying " I can jump ship I am out" post nearly every day. They just complain and provide no real path. I was not directing to other employees who have the b@lls to already do that change.

If a company is pi----g you off, the healthiest way is to move onto new ventures. Why keep yourself in that position. Oh I'll just keep doing the minimum and milking this company. Like they are almost as worst as Exxon. Glad you guys are imploding

"You won't quit."
"If you want to jump ship, you would've already."

I frequently see comments like those. Do you realize that people are quitting daily? I know of a well-ranked engineer that just quit last week. I know of another that is resigning in June. I know of others that are working through the interview process at FAANG. The thing that people are saying won't happen - it is happening, continuously.

Ah I remember several employees disillusioned by the EM kool-aid (when things are good). Then when stuff happens to them, they turn a 180 degree EM hate train. I always say, have plan B. Because no company is immune to this.

Lets be real. You won't quit. It is a mouse and a jar story that A LOT of employees face. You are most likely waiting until retirement and will continue to complain. If you want to jump ship, you would've already.

Wow. EM was always such a cuddle buddy to employees. NOT

It’s not a place for the weak and cowardly. May as well leave now.

Ge-z, I hope your manager finds out who you are and pulls your badge. Exxonmobil is made for the strong, business minded, and smart. Its not made for uhmmm, you.

Unless you’re self employed, you shouldn’t be loyal to any company

Yup, we get told the same sh-t in HR. When we question something the leadership responss is yeah we know but we gotta do it to please the HR VP Tracy G. She's also DWs puppet I am sure. Unless DW is kicked out there is no hope of better treatment of people at XOM. Pity.
