Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Surprised how long Nike has been able to get away with this. Other big companies do it too of course but the way they use ETWs is f’d up and against the spirit of the labor laws.

I somehow managed to avoid the three month break - not sure what my manager had to do. I actually think it would've been better had I taken the break because I would've saved myself a couple years of heartache had I found a different job in the meantime. If you don't get converted after a year then start looking for FTE roles in other parts of Nike or at a different company. Don't be that person on your team.

This is why ETWs at Nike CANNOT stay endlessly and must take a break.

It was my understanding that all ETWs must leave Nike after 18 months unless they get a waiver to stay longer. I think they have to leave for 3 months. I have also heard from other friends that hire ex-nike ETW that a lot of them stay for 3 months and then go back to nike. I have a couple of friends that will not hire any ex-nike contractor because of this. Curious if others have seen this.

I remember when this happened and realizing about my third year in as a Nike ETW that what was happening to me sounded awfully similar. I'm pretty sure Nike HR and legal are well aware of this and do just enough to not cross that line.
