Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Hon is not a company that offers stability to employees anymore.

At the pace at which this company is changing I’m beginning to think that there won’t be jobs for any of us in a year or two.
Changes at this company are happening on a daily basis and when we add the constant intention to reduce the workforce via layoffs and by allocation of jobs, the concussion is that this will not be a stable place to work even if we don't get cut in the near future. Trying to seek my fortunes elsewhere seems like a rational move at this moment and I think all of us should think about that.

Agree with previous commenter that there was such a thing as job stability in the 1970s and earlier, when people got a gold watch for 40 years of service. I can't speak specifically about HW on this, as I came from a different industry.

In general, company loyalty to employees has eroded steadily since the early 1980s as companies got the idea that people would still keep coming to work even if their overall compensation and benefits were cut, no doubt in part due to the materially competetive, free-spending "Yuppie" culture of that time.

Companies started putting more emphasis on individual performance to justify giving more to some employees, less to others, and clearing out the unwanted. As a result, no one I've ever talked to, in any industry, has ever had an expectation of job security.

We do our best and hope that will be good enough to survive the whims and winds of change at the office. Sometimes it isn't.

Gee, welcome to the 1970s. Jobs haven't been stable anywhere, even the military has been laying off for the past 20 years.
