Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

PERMANENT SCAR ON RECORD?

So, I've been applying and applying and applying for positions at HON and get the same response every time. ("...at this time we are pursuing other candidates whose qualifications more closely align with the job requirements for this position."). Mind you, every position that I applied for, I was either MORE than qualified or DEAD ON. I know this because I had over 10 years of employment with HON. The question is (finally), can a manager blight your chances of ever being re-hired? Is there some kind of code word, signal or sign that stays with the Honeywell Talent Acquisition team/Human Resources that alerts them that my previous manager put a "STOP, DO NOT REHIRE THIS PERSON" alert? I was in an impossible (company induced) situation at the time of my employment that all I could do was leave. Serious and sincere answers only please. I know all of the "why do you want to go back, stay away, you're better off to be out of there, and on and on and on...." folks will have their say. But my reasons are my own.

Just a thought...last I looked, the company uses Ranstad as a third-party recruiter. You could try contacting Ranstad directly about jobs you're interested in and maybe one of the recruiters will take a liking to you.

Typical for me was no response back at all, not even a no thank you. I was laid off in 2016. I applied for quit a few Honeywell jobs that current employees told me about, knowing I was a fit. Also applied external. Most of my applications and all of the ones to Hon got no reply. Likely most applications are screened out by a computer tool, and after that a third party HR group that doesn't know what they are doing. If a company really needs people, like they just got a big government contract, the managers will be more involved in the process (I think). When I got interview at a different company, the first contact I had was a call from the hiring manager. If you know a hiring manager that helps get past the screening. W/O that likely diversity and age are what matter.

If you have quit voluntarily or have been terminated (not RIFed). You are permanently on the NO-REHIRE list. Honeywell policies. The only way to bypass it, if the hiring manager can make the case for you. Which means in your case, you have to know someone on the inside.

@OP. I hear you. I have applied internally a number of times as I realized that I won’t grow in my team. In fact, I reached out to the hiring managers separately and shared my resume. Tweaked my HON career profile accordingly. I am also intrigued like you that I wasn’t considered for any of these roles. Had only one interview to be told that I am doing everything right. The one major difference in our approaches were that I tried for 3 years and then left for an external role. I hope you will get a right role!

Why in the he-l would you try getting back into that place?? Take it as a sign and move on. Nothing is worse than Honeywell. Nothing.

I'm over 55 and applying elsewhere. That must be the current way of phrasing "no" because I see it all the time. But suddenly I have 4 interviews next week!

Of course, none of them are with HON and I for one would never consider applying there again.

@yjb
How can you state this is the worst unemployment period since 1930?

There is no data to support that. Maybe not for the job you want with the salary you want and at a location you want but there are Job's out there.

Not saying you can find one in a month but there is different work available. Now, if you are north of 55 it is more difficult for everyone in that demographic and if male a bit harder.

Yes, I am in that demographic but it isn't just Hon that works like that. I guess I put myself in a position that I'd be fine with contract work for a while. Not lucky just planning.

@nsp+1, I kind of had a feeling that my suspicion was true. Thanks for the advice on the interview process, if it ever happens.
@yjb+1, IT IS NOT PARANOIA and has been confirmed. Also, please don't respond to posts unless you have read them thoroughly and have some "value added" advice.

Permanent/personal record is real, there is a no rehire mark that can be placed on you as well as it being overridden but requires extensive intervention, you will need to really impress in the interview. With so many people leaving, they will give you another shot

No, He is not being Paranoid. There is and there has been a NO RE-HIRE/NO HIRE List. It's real so deal with it and move ON!

You Are being paranoid. This is the worst unemployment period since the 1930s, it will just be flat out tough to find an equivalent job. Work LinkedIn and perfect the resume and job interview questions. If you got let go in 2020 you can, in time, paper over it with a job in 2021 (leave the months off the record, : ))

One exception... If you were a manager at honeyhell and are applying to other places... it would seem that blackballing could occur if the new company knows ANYTHING about HON Aero.
