Thread regarding GE Healthcare layoffs

Where do you find motivation to work?

If I were younger, I wouldn't hesitate and I wouldn't stay in this company for a day longer. At my age, it’s a little harder. There is not much left until retirement, however, my days here are very long because I can no longer find any motivation to work in this company. Where do you manage to find it?

All you need to do is write good emails and talk the talk and you can pull it off. Incompetence is rewarded, knowledgeable individuals get stuck doing the work until they retire thus what we have now mostly individuals who talk the talk and can’t do much

No career growth I mean, if people coasting are just taking up space.

Just don't leave all the work for people actually working. I'm putting in nights and wknds so I'm def going to leave if ppl are just coasting like this and there's growth.

Your lack of motivation likely stems from the fact that your work and contributions to the organization really don't matter and likely go unnoticed. I recommend a level-set : begin coasting to the finish line, taking long "mental health" breaks (think 9 holes here), bathroom breaks that turn into afternoons away... in general put on a mask of positivity and contentment while you die a slow death on the inside. Give them what they want is what I say! Perhaps daydream a bit about the day you are no longer here and begin to get your dignity and self respect back. I've personally started watching the "price is right" again as I work from home, while incorporating a nap schedule during diversity calls. Close to the end here as well and I hope you find these words encouraging as you realize you are simply one of many suffering in silence. All the best-

Trust me, many of the mid-career and younger employees are faking it too. Unless you landed in a position where your manager is in a position to help you succeed, you will suffer. And I don't know what it takes for those things to happen. I've witness people with a lot of influence fail to improve this place and leave. Or their direct reports who woulda stayed if they were able to actual move up the ladder. Mediocrity is rewarded. I just hope I get a call from someone who's left and it begins with 'I have the perfect job for you.'
