Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

CFE process a complete waste of time

I hated the CFE process at Nike. Wasting time filling out a bunch of stupid forms which no one ever looked at, then getting your review rescheduled about six times, only to get a satisfactory rating and a very small raise, no matter how hard you tried to get a highly successful and a few more $.

System rigged by HR and managers were only able to give out 1-2 HS no matter how many great people on their team. I never understood why they didn't change their review process or just scrap it since literally no one took it seriously - just give everyone a 3% COLA and be done with it.

Maybe it's better now, but I kinda doubt it. I heard last year no one got raises but the ELT got $1M bonuses. Yea, that tracks. So glad I got out of there and am now at a company where exceptional performance is actually acknowledged, appreciated and rewarded.

Probably the most anachronistic ritual still thriving at the Swoosh. HR only the implementer. Ratings, merit/psp dollars and calibrations all dictated from the top subjectively. Managers are told who gets what, who gets promoted and who gets forced out. Many people don't even get CFE discussion or written feedback or even read what you put together to provide the evidence that you achieved or exceeded goals. Just a surprise later when you receive your rating. The last CFE I received by my manager who keeps getting promoted, "You should socialize more after hours." (I am single female). So, basically worthless feedback, biased assessment and paltry numbers. Meanwhile, 0% effective tax rate. Are they passing that on in new open positions, merit awards, band promotions, new Innovation investments? Or, mainly stock buybacks?

One year my manager at Nike actually skipped my year end CFE altogether! He Never even scheduled it. I was so confused and hurt. He entered my rating in the system and just passed me by like I didn’t matter. It was probably some sick manipulation on his part to lower my morale and keep me vulnerable. HR doesn’t care or follow up.

Thank god I left.

It's all d-mb. It takes a ton of time. The part that annoys me the most? Nike claims to hire the best of the best and yet employees in the same group can't ever ALL be "Highly Successful." It's a broken system full of garbage. It's a bureaucratic nightmare. (I have gotten "Highly Successfuls" when my peers who should have also did not. It's a mess.) And, to spend 3-4 months EVERY YEAR prepping for this trash is exhausting.

My previous employer had a 1 to 10 scale. Even if you got 10 doesn't mean you're getting a raise. They'd always have some BS statement like "Ah sorry - business was down this year, but you get a one time bonus!". Found out they were giving bonuses to all the leadership team for "impressive performance without increasing staff!"

Companies should just give up on Performance tracking and measurement. No one is ever happy, managers or employees.

You are only allowed to complain when your review gets rescheduled 10 times or more.
