Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon is not a company for everyone

I wouldn’t want to offend someone, but from my point of view Verizon is no longer a company for everyone.
This is no longer a place where you will do your hard work thanks to your expertise, but a place where you will do better if you are a backstabber, brown-noser, if you pretend to be working instead of actually working, if you take credit for someone else's work, etc.
It is sad what this company is turning into. I would never recommend anyone talented and hardworking to come to work here.

You realize that most of the programs put out by elitists to "help" the disadvantaged are paid for (not just by money) by the middle class. The elitists get to pound their chests without putting any skin in the game. When an otherwise unqualified disadvantaged kid gets into a good college, who do you think loses that seat? Not the senator's son, not the kid of Mr & Mrs Fancy Pants liberal. It's some middle class kid without connections. When an otherwise unqualified person gets a job, who gets left out? Not the person with all the connections but some nobody they can sweep away.

I would like to see the people hollering the most for "justice" to be the ones who sacrifice the most for that justice. But you know that ain't happening. Same thing with the military. When we go back to a time when the leaders actually have to go out and lead the army into battle, you'll see the number of wars drop significantly.

How bout we all forget what color and gender people are. I don't give a XXXX what you are. Once we all just get along and not label people we will have made it. Except I expect there will always be those on both sides of the aisle who get their power from all the turmoil. Let's be bigger than they are.

OP, I'm not sure why they took down your "Magic Garden" post, but I wanted to tell you I was never a fan. I preferred Mr Dressup with Casey, Finnegan, and the ORIGINAL tickle trunk.

You make no cents, but keep on working yourself to an early grave inane drone.

It looks like your little endeavor finally took off, OP. You were obviously trying to get a union/management discussion/fight started. Instead, it's mainly politics.
I'd be curious to know if this scratches your itch. Do you consider this a failure for not going the way you thought it would? Is it a failure because it didn't make you look like the wise messiah you were trying to set yourself up as? Your goal might have been to paint the union membership as enlightened beings that have risen above the petty squabbling rampant on this planet.
Maybe you see this as a success because you got people fighting?
I don't expect you to bear your soul here, but I think the answer would teach you a lot about yourself.

OP is right. TMobile & AT&T are better places to work.

Hey OP I used to watch the magic garden too. I stopped when my parents moved us into a state that was consistently red. Losing that show was well worth it.

Anyway, when is this corporation going to open slave labor camps, or concentration camps?

Directly addressing the problematic issue. A controversial tactic on an anonymous board.
Is it better to use smoke and mirrors to try to distract the audience, or to ignore the issue completely?
In addresing the issue, you run the risk of putting yourself in a "The lady doth protest too much, methinks," Situation. At least you're trying to be proactive, though. Ignoring it can be far too dismissive, though.
Both rely on the ignorance of the audience to succeed. Both presume that others are not nuanced enough to recognize similarities in vocabulary, grammar, and writing styles. To pull it off successfully requires the ability to be VERY self aware, and to alter ingrained world views, attitudes, opinions and emotions. In addition, you need to be able to address instincts and habits that are so deeply seated that you probably aren't even aware of them.
It's all actually pretty insulting to the audience when you think about it.
No matter... the choice has been made. Let's see how it pans out....

And after a few filler posts to lend an air of legitimacy... OP finally gets to the meat of it. A carefully crafted, pseudo-intellectual, exploration of the moral and cultural differences between management and union. The agenda and bias ham-fistedly disguised at best.
I bet it feels good to be back on track, doesn't it?
You're still re-reading it smugly congratulating yourself on your ability as a wordsmith AND an intellect.
It'll be fun to see how this pans out for you.
Will you get any bites? Maybe some one willing to debate the merit and evils of the management/union structure. Maybe a heated bout of name calling and insults.
Maybe, just maybe no one will take the bait and you'll have to unpack one of your carefully composed replies so you don't look like you were left hanging.
I can't wait to see how this unfolds!

OP, when did management become more jaded than union folks, who appear to be a lot happier?
Could it be that “backstabbing and brown-nosing” are not tolerated in that province, and that participants of that behavior are rightfully called out on it, and inevitably shunned by the people that they work shoulder to shoulder with who possess more decency, integrity and self-worth than they themselves can muster? Follow that lead and vote despicable loathsome sorts “off the island“, if you will, rather than embracing and copying there lead as a model to jet to the top?
All issues of concern amongst fair-minded gentlemen and gentlewomen should be addressed openly in the group, like therapy, like unions, but some are too timid to even be themselves during an innocuous pulse survey, that potentially could expose worts and all. Come on people, grow some…
legs.

But it is a nice place to have a career, afford a house, take some decent vacations, and with the good times far outweighing the bad eras.
And, it’s better now than ever.

This is the extension of high-school. How about this my manager actually went and told my girl I was screwing another girl. Here's the twist she was married and screwing another rep who was married. I tell no lies...
