Thread regarding IBM layoffs

What should an employee do?

Aside from leaving, what should an employee do that would alleviate all the concerns on this board?

Relax. Drink some Kool-Aid. Things will work out in the end.

So I'm a senior voice architect who as part of J2C had to do the whole Java/Spring training, so now they've rebranded me as a programer, and well you're over 25% over the max salary for a programmer who happens to manage a large telecommunications company voice network, fine no more 93+% utilization, 82% and how many cough cough sick days do I get ... nice, I'll start using those. Call me with the severance package.

What we should do is take a stand. There have never been so few worker bees and so much executive bloat in the company’s history as there are now. Say “no” when you don’t agree with the direction or think something is a waste of time. Assertively challenge your leadership. If all Band 9s and below started standing up for each other, we could shift the balance of power significantly.

Stay yourself and don't let IBM mess up with who you are.
Put your health, family and hobbies to higher position in priorities than IBM.
Have fun. Say the truth.

If IBM lays you off for being yourself, having fun and saying the truth, it was probably a good thing to happen. If they keep you, it will be in a way you like.

There are plenty of good teams and places to work in ibm. Ask around some friends you know in other groups and move orgs.

Work hard, do the job they are paying for, seek better opportunities if needed. I.e. keep your "brand" intact.

Update your resume/CV, get your financials in order and take charge of your future. If you stay with IBM, be prepared for them to cut you at any time. And always be looking for a better job with a better company than the one you are currently with.
There is a great life beyond IBM - take a peek!

#1 thing to do is to stop caring about IBM. The declines will probably continue, and it is hard to watch something you care about die. But the stress is not worth it. So stop caring.

Work the least, take the maximum time off, take advantage of any learning opportunities while at IBM... IBM will never reward you if you work hard.
