Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What's your value added?

I started reading the comments here during the 2016 layoffs (which miraculously I survived), and still return here from time to time to see what's "trending". I complain about work as much as the rest (maybe even more than my share). I am getting old (probably should have taken the package last round) but once in a while I think "Jesus this company pays me a lot of money". If they had offered my young self this much cash for a days work I would have gladly worked until I dropped. Today sometimes that thought motivates me to buckle down and get on with it ... other times to get another cup of coffee and read the newspaper.

While I agree that Oct 2020 was a particularly good time to leave Chevron, the year salary offered was really only about a half year to total compensation and the drop in the value of the lump has only been a few percent to date... nowhere close to 2.5 years of compensation you claim!

If you are going to retire in a few years, and you didn’t take the severance and at the time, the highest lump sum payout in the history of lump sum payouts, you really miscalculated. For me, not leaving last year would have been like working for free for 2.5 years. And I was going to retire in 2 years, so best to leave when I did. And I don’t have to put up with the cluster that is the company after the biggest re-org ever!!!

Once you stop trying to add value in anything you do what's left? Nothing. You die. Never stop trying to add value. Make it worth something.

If your value added is negative to zero, you have no one to blame but yourself. Don't try to pass your worthlessness on to others, we don't want it, lol!

Health & Environmental is a disaster. They have nothing to lower the carbon. Health is non existent. The in-fighting and squabbling to get promoted in that organization is nauseating. I suggest get fresh recruits who are qualified and dump the old hags who has been milking the system in the name of OE for ages.

Agree with you OP i do think we get well and sometimes we should knuckle down and do something, but the things the company want us to do is not value adding. We are not a hydrocarbon business

So then... I end up getting another coffee :)

Waiting for the next package
