Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

How do you reduce HON-related stress?

Working at HON has never been more stressful for a myriad of reasons some more personal (abusive manager) than others (layoffs.) Since I doubt anything will change for the better any time soon, I was wondering how do the rest of you deal with that stress? I'd like to avoid medication, but the way things have been going, if I want to get a good night's sleep I might not be able to.

I left. That’s the only solution I had after trying a number of things. And that’s the best decision I have had in my professional career.

Presuming the OP's question is serious...

  • I set realistic expectations for myself.
  • I don't allow others to impose their expectations if they aren't realistic
  • I work at home when I can.
  • I pet my dog... great stress reliever.
  • I step out and walk (with the dog) for breaks.
  • I listen to peaceful music or an interesting audiobook when I work.
  • I occasionally reach out to coworkers to share a laugh. That helps them, too.
  • I recognize that whatever happens, this too shall pass

How do I reduce stress? I badge in at 8 in the morning to prove I'm coming in to the office. Then I leave immediately. I haven't heard from my manager in months. I don't know what the work is and I stopped asking a long time ago.

I treat it like a game, sort of like simon says but it’s CEO says. CEO says be a zealot for growth “Be a zealot for growth!” Just repeat what they say enough and eventually you will get to the next level. Imitation is rewarded much more lavishly than independence and correctness in many hierarchical systems.

Even after getting RIF'ed last year, I am still decompressing. Constantly being told to do the impossible, immediately, without the proper resources to do it took its toll and it was a blessed relief to leave.

Don't think you have to stay and throw good years after bad. They will never appreciate your sacrifices, and btw why should you be making sacrifices for a mediocre paycheck and insulting "benefits"? Losing yourself on an impossible quest to please the so-and-sos in charge will leave you regretting those wasted years.

If you are contemplating medication simply to be able to continue in that job, it is time to leave.

Sad to say the majority of employees quit and stay just waiting to be rif'd.

I stopped caring. I came to the office, did what I could, left 8 hours later. By the time I got to the elevator I had forgotten about the past workday.
I refused to get burned out by focussing on the few things I did care about: some colleagues, pay check and travel (with a liberal interpretation of the travel policy)

So often I see managers at Honeywell crash and burn after about 5-years at Honeywell, due to the environment, stress, work required hours and endless work demands for more. They typically seem to get divorced, have affairs, experience substance abuse typically alcohol related, mental issues, totally give away and lose their personal integrity, their kids start having major issues, quit, or are totally burned out. Honeywell is not a career or worth it in my opinion.

I put my head down and do my job. I'm guessing, when you can actually do your job well enough, you get left alone.

Easy - I just care less and less. I've made it into somewhat of a game to watch my management get themselves painted into corners and sc--w themselves over. If they don't ask me what the proper course.of business is,I don't tell them and then I watch the results with hidden glee. It's really helped my mood.
