Management Failures - How do we trust this unethical group of people?

The crazy and most frustrating thing is that we have zero positive articles or news coverage ever. Agree we are an oil and gas company and will always be hated a certain section, but look at the recent activity. There is a clear lack of ethics and integrity in senior leadership. Here is a list, please add. Maybe a one pager summary of these can help out managers see themselves as they are.

1) Proxy Battle - spending millions for arrogant ‘leader’, who has no credibility within his own company
2) Laid off employees in a shameless, zero integrity manner
3) Executive caught in Nigeria, never talked about probably ‘silenced’
4) Failure after failure in Guyana operations to keep compressor going, refusal to pay minor fines
5) SEC investigation into Permian reserves and bloated claims on targets
6) A failed strategy to double cashflow out of nowhere, now blamed conveniently on Covid
7) A failed re-org and culture change, blame it on employees when the top leadership is rotten to the core, its nauseating to hear them talk in their ‘videos’ to us. WTF do you think of yourselves, greedy pigs is all you are, nothing more.
8) Lowest ever employee morale
9) Failed outsourcing, low cost countries are not happy with the BS
10) Lack of capability to admit mistakes
11) Lack of authentic behavior
12) Forcing employees to come to work for no real reason
13) Sh---y visibility culture, Yammer, no keed to say more
14) Clear issues of creating work that has no value
15) Lack of clarity on what employees actually do
16) Reactive behavior, follow others attitude- and then claim to become the best in industry?
17) Employees keep suggesting ideas and get fired, and then they ask why so silent?
18) One year ago, energy transition plans by o&g companies is a gimmick. Fast forward a year - TEXAS SIZED CCS PLAN. Do they really think employees believe the BS? Put it on govt to fund $100 Billion plan when the company is in debt >$60 Billion
19) Promote leaders who believe the BS or atleast are capable of pretending to.
20) A rotten performance assessment system
21) Rotten middle managers and research organsiations
22) LIar arrogant child like CEO/ Chairman who gets paid millions while the company stock tanks for a decade
23) Investment decisions in Kearl, XTO, Brazil ( no real discovery yet)
24) Algae lies
25) Dr. syrup’s BS dual challenge speeches in industry platform whereas employees know he is jist lying and making zero sense as the truth is very far from his words
26) Insecure leaders who hurt their employees everyday
27) A culture so toxic that we need culture managers and advisors, its laughable
28) No internal skills, skill gap due to forced retirements
29) Misleading career promises to new recruits before they discover reality
30) Finally, an anonymous site like Layoff where most people find their information and sometimes peace, how depressing is that.

@OP - great list. I can't really think of anything to add, except all of the spineless "leaders" with their woke messages of "inclusion and diversity". All of their forums and videos talking about OUR "unconscious bias" and the need for us to promote women and ethnic minorities to senior management positions. Well, here's the kicker - if white male senior managers seriously want to make a difference from an I&D perspective, they should immediately vacate their own position for a female or POC.

Pretty accurate list. For the past two decades the company has gone from being the leaders and innovators in the industry to reactionary and followers. Driven by arrogance at the top, the last to identify and embrace new trends and then overreact. From as simple as insisting on continuing to force Blackberries when the rest of the world has gone iOS, to insisting fracking would never catch on, resulting in grossly overpaying for XTO, to staying male and white, then rushing to hire and promote I&D staff without any real regard to skills or merit, to the latest, from Climate deniers to grandiose plans with any study or hope for success.

Grossly overpaid id--ts in middle management, especially in HQ, placed in their roles because they are good parrots, and are willing to act enthused about the flavor of the month and cram it down their subordinates throats.

Continuing to turn left when everyone in the industry is turning right, again, driven by arrogance and contrarianism, not because anyone has a plan.

Carrying an attitude that working for the company is a privilege, treating employees like p-o, then acting shocked that they would leave to go to Chevron, or leave the industry altogether. Anyone with a brain can see through the “total remuneration” and note that compensation benchmarking against food and consumer products companies is wool pulling.

The company has always been known on the outside as a sweatshop, but still admired, now the whispers are “thank goodness I don’t work there”. Idk why any experienced hire would ever come to work here and out themselves at risk of being taken out back and shot, knowing they are one bad manager away from being severed without pay. Nor a young person unless they are carrying at least 2 points in the I&D scoring system.

@OP A manager is a corporate tool by virtue of both form and function. They take directives from one level up and kick them the next level down. Ethics plays no role in modern corporate culture; all that matters is what is legally defensible.

Your problem seems to be that you’re likely a decent person with a sense of self-worth and regard for others. There’s no place for that in Corporate America.

Sorry for the cynical tone. Best of luck.

Lay-off is the real yammer.

Bet managers spend their days trying to decipher why people don’t like them when they see only praise and success in their yammer.
