Part Time - TWA Work

Anyone have experience with working part time (TWA ) there? Was my experience as bad as anyone else’s? I was a top performer in PF engineering for several years until I went part time to try and get pregnant and once I went part time, I was treated like my IQ dropped, yelled at and was basically forced to resign. Things worked out for the better and I am glad I left, but I was wondering if things were still like this or better now?

I think it is naive to think you can work part time at Ford and still have a career. You must choose between family or career.

I personally never worked TWA but I have friends who have. I have heard both good and bad. From what I have heard. It depends on your management.

My good friend at Ford (I also work there) took a TWA position and it didn’t work out well. Basically the manager is given two part people who count as one FTE for budget purposes. She was given so much work that she was working 40 plus hours just to keep up. Same with the her TWA partner. She initially thought the heavy work load was because she was new to the position and not as fast as others. Nope! As her knowledge increased so did her workload. In the end she took a significant payout, had to pay more for benefits, lost vacation and sick time and still worked full time. She asked if she could work full time and was told they didn’t have the budget for a full time position. The outcome likely depends on the people leaders.

Anyone who values the LL4 and LL5 opinion is a fool. Most cannot find their hind end with two hands and a flashlight. Seriously if you are a tail kisser then LL4 and LL5 will like you. If you realize that LL4, LL5, LL6 don’t have a clue, then just keep your mouth shut, smile and take home a paycheck for doing nothing.

Funny, but everyone thinks they are a too performer. Guess, doesn’t matter what you think or even what your L6 thinks... if the 5 and the 4 don’t like you, might as well resign cause you ain’t going anywhere but down.

In this woman’s case, who knows? All I know is that for all the women I have known that have gone on TWA, all but one where universally like and respected- especially at the 5 and 4 levels. The one they had issues / yup no one really liked her.

I have been TWA in PD for 14 years, no issues. I have been top achiever for a few of those years and been asked to apply for promotional positions, which I reject because I want to stay TWA to be available for my kids. I guess it depends on your organization and your work responsibilities. I do not work more than my TWA %, but I have significant experience in my area that would be difficult to quickly replace. Also, I am not the primary earner in my family, so if i were forced to work full time or not respected I would quit.
