Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Not enough work

Am I the only who's workload has dropped significantly in the past month or so? Should I be worried or just enjoy it while it lasts. Usually, I'm severely overworked so this is somewhat of an adjustment for me - although not an unwelcome one necessarily. Has anybody else been in a similar situation?

@1esy -No we do. It is now a Mexican colleague (from Guadalajara office) with a 'loads of experience' and who recently joined IBM after college is telling MBAs what and how things need to be done. Any thoughts?

I do nothing all day, yet my customer let me bill 40 hours a week.

How do you guys have lack of work? Don't you have a product to ship?

I agree with the person who said to use this time to upgrade skills. The one thing IBM does offer is a lot of education. You don't need to get badges but take all the education you can. I even found some mgt classes (have never been a mgr) that I was allowed to take. It will give you a bit of an in sight into how they think, or the lack of thinking :) But seriously, IBM mgt education may pay dividends if you leave and go to another corp.

@tey - same experience here (Storage software). But frankly I have not been all that impressed with the RHers I have worked with, although they all think their sh-t doesn't stink.

I would use the extra time to upgrade skills and it’s ALWAYS a good idea to network to look for the next opportunity.

If you're not already wearing a Fedora, I highly advise getting one. As this place moves in that direction, our traditional positions will become less and less needed. We were told that we were buying that company to bolster our offerings yet it looks more like that they will completely replace us. They still have not worked WITH us but instead, work against us. Whenever my team has reached out to the boys in red, we either get scolded by our own management or get shunned and treated as lesser beings. This is NOT how you work together.

Have they asked you to train anybody? That is usually a sign of things to come.
