Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Open Letter to the CEO of Verzion - Pulse Survey!

To the CEO of Verizon,

Why are directors and managers calling employees and asking them if they took the Pulse Survey? We were told over and over and over again that the Pulse Survey is voluntary and anonymous. Just how is it voluntary and anonymous when directors and managers are cold calling their direct reports and demand to know if they took the Pulse Survey or not?

I am sure you will get right on this and slap down directors and managers for this behavior! I think the cows will come home first.

Basically Mr. CEO of Verizon, you and your leadership say one thing and do another. You talk out both sides of your mouth and their is a name for this, flimflam! Mr. CEO of Verizon you clearly are a flimflam artist of the highest order! "Talk is CHEAP and actions speak volumes."

Signed,

22 year employee

also when they have systems that can see and record your screens how is it really anonymous? I mean I don’t care I will and have said exactly what I think and have taken my concerns where I feel they need to be but others are way too scared to do so , so they won’t even fill out a pulse survey .

We all took the survey at our store. They didnt like the comments so we had to take another survey and were told they could do an HR investigation if we didnt answer differently on the second.

You cant be honest on the survey so why even take it. If you want honest feedback give a survey about the GM only.

I am hoping more work from home positions open up. After they changed the commission to “team commission” this job has went downhill fast. Now our commission is half what it used to be. You dont get paid more to work hard because now everyone gets paid the same whether you are lazy or not.

By the way, fix our SYSTEMS!! Kind of hard to do your job when you cant even ring things out. Ridiculous. HUGE company and nothing ever works. They want us to sell this and sell that but you cant even add it to the account because the systems are from the 1980’s

@5waf+1aZLFi7B is right on the money. The Directors know the results by band and location and can figure out who provided the responses. Anonymous is a total scam.

"For example: If they asked the question which would you prefer to use for your business email to be most productive... Google Mail or MS outlook? They don't want to know the answer to this because 98% of the people would say Outlook."

THIS 100%. Google is awful, everyone agrees. What's the problem, is this a money thing? Outrageous when you see how much Hans makes. I'm sure he doesn't actually use his own email, he has people for that right? otherwise he'd know how much gmail sucks.

25+ year management employee here. We know for a fact from our director that they know the results by band and location. We only have 5 people in some locations, it's not hard to figure out who the respondents are. Director and Sr. manager both held meetings with us discussing results and asking our feedback on how to improve results (note: not how to improve our morale, how to improve Pulse results). It's so embarrassing...you know when you go to the car dealership for service on your car and they call you afterwards and basically beg that you give them a 10 out of 10 when you get the survey? that's what it feels like. So amateur and embarrassing for a fortune 20 company.

Are you guys stupid or something? We don't need to be told. We just get in our trucks, drive down a dark alley or find a building to hide behind and do what comes naturally.

And the worst thing is after the survey they come up with "fixes" that just makes most situations worse.

They are not wise enough to understand that they are going about this the wrong way. Begging your employees to take a survey is so lowbrow and third rate. Maybe they should consider actually listening to their staff for once instead of hiding behind a bogus survey that never seems to ask the right questions They don't ask "real" questions because they don't want to deal with the onslaught of real answers. For example: If they asked the question which would you prefer to use for your business email to be most productive... Google Mail or MS outlook? They don't want to know the answer to this because 98% of the people would say Outlook. This would show them that made a bad mistake as they forced Google Mail on everyone knowing full well it's a $hit Show. Of course there will be the 2% that love Google Mail... so let them use it but let the rest of us 98% us Outlook so we can remove that $hit show from out daily lives at Verizon. And the list of questions they don't want to ask are as many as the day is long.

Bottom line... The Survey is BS and everyone knows it, we know it, they know it so stop the begging please, it's so degrading to watch!

It isn’t anonymous to someone. It may be 100% to Verizon employees but somewhere they can track survey to survey for people which means somewhere the surveys is linked to you.

Do what I do.

Take the survey. Lie your tail off. Tell them what they want to hear. What's the difference?

Say, "yes! I took the survey!" whether you took it or not.

If you didn't, what are they going to say, "our records say you didn't take it"?

If so, then that's a public admission that the survey is NOT anonymous.

At another company, the surveys are "confidential", NOT anonymous. Problem is, "confidential" means HR and their 100 favorite friends can get access to individual level results. So, there is very, very little privacy with these types of surveys, if you read the fine print.

Makes me wonder how many managers and directors have performance measures related to survey participation.
I still remember when a survey “revealed” people didn’t get enough feedback so they briefly went to quarterly performance reviews that we wrote ourselves about our performance.

Well said OP! WELL SAID! Too bad your open letter will land of deaf ears. I am also taken a gas by many posters in this thread too.

I received one of those phone calls from my manager and I told him YEAH I did the survey! And I did. Meanwhile I recall the same manager telling all of us that the survey is voluntary. It seems the survey is not what management claims it to be. Someone is getting paid on the slide I am sure over this survey.

Who cares for 100,000 a year just shut up and take the survey . There are millions of people out there that would ki-l to have a flim flam artist for a boss who talks out both sides of their mouth and out of their bu-t . If they had a chance to make what you make

Post ID: @aev+1aZLFi7B - the OP was not asking anything but was just stating a fact that we already know and calling them out on it. Seems to me you are just being obtuse.
