Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

New Cisco employee but already nervous

Will it be really damaging to resign with in 30days of accepting a job ? or I will be overreacting, impatient and would reflect badly if I leave.

some advice i got and share often ...
you are the only one focused on what is best for you. be an advocate for yourself.

if it doesnt feel right move along. dont waste your time. and managers will want u to stay for their benefit not yours.

Depends which country you are... in plenty of countries it’s perfectly normal to leave company after 1 month, even without other offers. Do yourself a favour, if you really are that nervous, leave

Deciding to work at Cisco these days comes down to deciding if you want to focus on your own/your family's future or if you crave to virtue signal with the rest of the wokesters that blindly follow Fran's Ministry of Truth.

Just include years for places you’ve worked and omit Cisco, if you’re that nervous. Curious what team you’re on?

@OP+1abJycSA, you are screwed. Move on as soon as you can. Others will understand why you have to move on. No worries.

The only way to move up or get pay increases is to leave, so if/when better positions open up, take them.

In your case, while only being here for less than 30 days, you'll probably piss off the hiring manager and he'll probably remember you and won't hire you in the future if your paths cross again, but that should be the only negative impact.

Make sure to keep the role off your resume or LinkedIn profile. Otherwise future employers will ask why you only lasted 30 days at Cisco. Potential employers don't like it when a candidate bad mouths previous employers because someday you'll be bad mouthing them. Right now is the best time to have a slightly larger gap in employment as COVID impacts to hiring makes it seem out of your control and not an issue with your skills. If they know about your brief gig at Cisco, simply say that you and the company did not have the same goals and that it wasn't a good fit for you rather than saying Cisco s—s and lays people off frequently and you wanted to get out fast. Doesn't matter if that's the truth or not, it just comes across as negative.

You do not need to list an employer in your resume if you were only there a short time. I was lied to about a position at Cisco as well. I am so glad I spoke with a few friends that were there before starting. Unlike you though I chose not to take it the Friday before I was suppose to start. I accepted an offer from another company. Pretty much the entire team was gone within about 6 months of when I would have started. That was one heck of a right decision on my part.

Put it this way, do what is right for you! Cisco cares nothing about you. You are an expense on their sheet and nothing more. They will treat you that way. It is not worth it.

There is zero loyalty from Cisco to you and life is way to short. If there is a better opportunity in front of you do it.

I've seen one leave within the first two weeks

You would not be the first hire to leave within 30 days. You'll be fine.

Cisco is not a great place to work these days unless you are WOKE.

If you have a better opportunity take it. A friend had that happen, just never lists that brief stint on his resume. OTOH, if you're in your new job and realize its not a good fit, better to say that now and gracefully exit. Many employers have a 'probation' period and can release new employees for that reason.

I can't believe you were offered a job with that kind of critical thinking.
