Went to a startup and instantly became a director which was something I would of never been able to track staying at XOM due to the horrible politics and nepotism. Pay is barely less currently but quality of life is soooooo much better. I no longer dread going to work each day, and love what I am doing

Another data point - I’m still at EM but received an offer for same pay at another well known company (non-O&G). Work seems more interesting and I’d like the city more but eh I got too much tying me down in houston to accept same pay.

@2vqt+1abu31ZO - It seems ludicrous but it’s not. Most of these salaries are total compensation though (base + stocks + bonus).

Go to www.levels.fyi if you want to see ludicrous, it’s opened my eyes that I drank the kool aid.

Took a pay cut, but am working in project controls for a privately held EPC doing project work on behalf of a utility. Get paid by the hour, which means overtime (at 1.0 not 1.5, but still). Culture is immensely better. Happy to have gotten laid off, now

After leaving XOM, I realized how normal world lives and operates and how enthusiastic and fun it is to work with a free spirit.

I am young and the only regret that I have is ...why did I work at XOM and wasted many beautiful years of my life at a sh– hole place where the culture has progressively become dirtier and increasingly corrupt. My dumb coworkers had no interest in producing anything useful; they had a large appetite for creating unnecessary processes and figuring out how to travel the world on the company dime or expat assignments in Europe and Asia.

That’s great! Congratulations- I’m always happy to hear people who moved out of EM and got better jobs, and careers. Makes me envious! If only I’ve shown more courage and fortitude to leave this place when I’m younger ....

I'm in BAR just got licensed as. CPA heading to public accounting. I made the mistake of coming to xom out of college. You don't need a cpa license they said. You will learn the exxon way. What a joke. Exxon provides no skills to finance folks that are useful outside of exxon. You think because you can sumifs and vlookup you are a finance Profesional. Wake up get your cpa license. CPA is a profession they are always in demand. Take it from me take life into your own hands

Many of these salaries listed here are ludicrous.
You did come from EM, you understand. It's on the resume.
Not exactly considered cutting edge in engineering, financials or especially IT.

Perhaps your EM experience (PADP, etc.) has taught well how to use Key Words in resumes.
But that only goes so far.

I suspect several of these purported hirings are wishful BS or trolls.

@Baby Boomer, on a board full of people who are miserable in their careers, you stand out as the most miserable...how sad does your life have to be to come to one of these posts and respond with that? I would say go spend time with your family on the holiday, but I’m guessing there’s a reason you’re being miserable here instead

Pharma is about the same. They use quite a few process engineer roles. Salary might be slightly lower but they have good bonus and benefits that makes up for it. Many from NJ site have switched.

How many of you think you will make it till next year let alone 35 years. While I respect you for a great career. Many of us have greater opportunities outside exxon and outside OG.
