Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Respect For The Individual

I remember the day in the late 1980’s when they came around and removed these signs from the hallways in IBM. Not coincidentally that was when the “old” IBM died.

It's all a big lie; always was. One thing I instinctively KNEW when I graduated was that companies, in general, just plain S— =U. And I never bought into the 20-30 year career and retire with a great pension flimflam. That has worked for some but the present leftovers from that fantasy are facing hard reality today.
So - I never fell in love with any employer. In retrospect, I only worked for one person - me. The "respect for the individual" hokum was just an insult to a persons intelligence - the company was going to do what it wanted and "too bad", dear employee if you don't like it. So, I just jumped from employer to employer for more $$$ and more tech knowledge. Worked for me; still working. Being contrary is a good survival approach, at times.

Stop living in the past. It’s 2021. Adjust. Change. Move on.

That was the time when IBM was a money machine. It's easy to be righteous when everything is going your way. Actions is what counts.
