Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nike's Mid Level Mgmt is and will remain the worst

Former Nike employee - left the company on my own over 5 years ago. Mid level mgmt is a joke. All they care about is making the next promotion, and if they don't get it year after year they take it out on their employees. They also like to cause drama between their team members. Bored? Tell this employee that the other one thinks they can't do their job, and has negative feedback. It happened to me. Working in IT for many years, was stabbed in the back repeatedly until I finally got the pull to move on. It's been the best decision of my life. Don't stay because you think you won't have a better place to work - especially in IT. There are so many better companies out there! Believe in yourself.

@2zlc I'm on here because I still have a loved one employed by Nike, and I'm keeping up to date for their sake. No trolling...just sharing my experiences in hopes that it will benefit others. And I have enough friends still with the company who validate my claim.

You left Nike 5 years ago yet still troll The Layoff. Why? Honestly, what is broken about you that you’re here, commenting on people and culture from 5 years ago. A lot has changed and your opinion isn’t is no longer based on the current situation.

I wouldn’t even think for a second about visiting this for one of my past employers. Seems like so many that leave Nike can’t leave Nike behind.

+1 to the comment about Nike mid level management not having a choice. Nobody really does without repercussions of some kind except for ELT. Nobody, even Sr Directors, has real power to make any change except the VP’s.

It's a free-for-all in regards to how middle management operates on the daily. I was in middle management prior to being laid off (not in IT!) and my manager as well as my Sr. Dir all interpreted Nike policy, matter of respect, privacy, HR guidelines, "do the right thing", and team culture SO DIFFERENTLY. They continually contradicted each other, instigated drama and conflict between employees on our team by creating and fueling false rumors, and consistently stabbed people in the back. Their behavior was so distracting and unprofessional, but seemed to be overlooked because our business was thriving. And, of course, those upper-level managers and their destructive behaviors continue to be employed.

Nike’s mid level management, I think, are in a bad situation; not trying to defend them, but the reality is that they are heavily influenced and at time are made to behave the way they do given the direction of their own bosses. Look, sh– runs downhill. Do I think they can do much better? Of course. Do I think they are allowed to in fact think freely and act humanly? No, I do not.
