Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

CONTROLLERS LETS SHOW EVERYONE WHAT WE REALLY DO.

So many posts question what controllers and finance people actually do. Thinking they should get rid of us and send our jobs over seas. Ok fine. As close stars, how about we sit on our butts and see how quarter close and reporting gets done. License to operate much? This company is a joke.

I win controllers and ever since they moved revenue accounting booking to a BA accountant, something has been booked wrong. Every. Single. Month.

The people ragging on controllers are engineers obviously not in top quint. Every top quint goes through plan and has to directly be involved in the controllers business close / reporting process for all metrics. Controllers rarely have the business context to do reconciliations at level needed by bar, but the planners rarely have insights at their level to know what’s actually going on and so most of the work is garbage in garbage out story telling. These (controllers and planning) are some of the worst jobs in the Corp. I feel sorry for them being beholden to the WD calendar. Eff that noise

I am not a controller but obviously none of you people are in positions high enough to understand why controllers definitely are needed. Wait until these jobs at shipped overseas. You have no idea what kind of trouble you will have when they start screwing everything up.

The controllers organization in Canada, especially Imperial, are a bunch of lazy, whiney, overstaffed and overpaid bureaucrats. Several incompetent and unemployable individuals have been promoted to safe, newly created managerial positions or with some other fancy titles. These undeserving individuals have corrupted the organization and not earning even a fraction of their pay. These jobs can be performed cost effectively by the much denigrated GBS. ExxonMobil is being taken to the cleaners by these con artists.

I’m just here to say that whoever said controllers was not on the chopping block is lying. Continue.

Engineers are steering the ship. Look at us now. The exxon way is the way of the past. Get some experienced managers from outside to save ship.

Everyone knows that the engineers get assigned to BAR jobs to do the month / quarterly close. Oh please, we have way to many finance people that can be replaced by BTC or admins.

Let me tell you a funny story of the importance of every part of the anatomy: “one fine day, in the early morning, the “brain” decided to speak out loud: I am the most important part of the body as I control every other part and without me the body cannot function. The “eyes” was upset, without me you cannot go anywhere, so I am more important. The mouth then complained - if I don’t open up, you all don’t get the nutrition and eventually, you all will starve to death. So I am more important. The legs then stood up and proclaim. I am the most important, without me you can go no where. And the other parts of the body continue to claim their importance. Finally it came to the “arse-hole”. Instead of speaking up, it decided to shut up. The body went into constipation and the body fell sick. Who is the most important of all now?

The moral of this story is - every organisation in the company is important, no matter how unimportant other organisations may perceived. So no one can claim that they are more important than the other. Without each other the Company cannot function! So who is the “arse-hole” in the organization?

Send these BS jobs to BSCs. Some really hard working engineers would still be here if it was not for all these useless bean counters.

I feel like you are the same person writing the posts about sitting around and not doing anything to milk the company out of as much money as possible before they PIP you. All the titles of your posts are in all caps and you don’t use an apostrophe in your contractions. Dude, you are toxic. You’re making your work environment worse for all your peers. Quit trying to bring the company down because you don’t like your work hours. You’re paid significantly more than public accounting and most of the roles in controllers work less hours than public accounting. We weren’t even on the chopping block last year as controllers compared to the engineers and business folks. If you don’t see a future with the company (obviously it’s only going to become more lean and more jobs are going to the BSCs and GBCs) than find somewhere else to work.

The irony of calling a group of 5,000+ people dumb when you have multiple spelling errors in a single, small blurb is just ... chef’s kiss
