Chevron no longer even tries to make an effort to retain or attract talented employees. Am I wrong? It is impossible to keep quality employees if they do not feel respected and appreciated here. There is no trust. Advancement opportunities are less than ever. These are just some of the reasons why there is less and less talent here. What the company is doing to keep them is unknown to me.

@9jep, Yes, very good point. They kept people like you and let other much more qualified and competent people go. I'm such they were paid more also, so it saved them more in that respect.
Chevron isn't interested in attracting or retaining talent. The ROM selections made that pretty clear.

long time ago corporations realized talent is disposable unless you are in a leadership position or is the spokesperson of MW... nowadays, no chance to negotiate as there are hundreds wanting to get a foot in the door, and management knows that... by the tone of the OP I can tell you are new to the business

Yes. I have seen this before. I have also seen people quit only to get rehired in a few years with a nice sign on bonus. Sometimes the management is split as to whether to hire back or not. Since the unwritten code for vps is to not get involved in other vps business the person gets hired back.
Yes, you can try the bluff, but be prepared for the outcome.

There is generally a 10-15% salary bump available to retain staff. It is at management discretion, of course. I have seen it used to match or beat outside offers and they can respond pretty quickly, if they like you.

The next layoff won't be a :real" layoff, they just fire your ass, no severance. You only hear about it piecemeal and the rumor mill. Severance is reserved for the big high profile -15% reduction where they have everyone play musical chairs (Re-org) and kick out the dead wood or those they don't like , We had one of those before this last one in 2010 remember, then they start the purges calling them things like accelerate downstream. SAme will probably happen again the next few years as they do more fine tuning type reductions on the quiet (no severance). They run the numbers on revenue, expenses, capital and dividend to figure out how many they need to reduce each year
We are in the early innings of a prolonged demise of our industry. It will continue for the next couple decades as Europe and California crack down severely on emissions.
Employees are an after thought. Only the dividend, and higher returns matter sadly. Once most of the talent are gone they are really going to have a tough time and are damaging the company right now. Younger people don't want to work in oil due to many reasons so they really need to treat the talent they have like gold because they will regret it in the future.
The company abandoned that in the last decade if not a little more. They don’t care much about retaining and attracting talent. They have their few top favorites who keep things together for the company. The rest of the employees are there just to get the work done and are easily let go without further thought if the need arises to cast any ballast overboard.

People need to get back to work before they take inventory and then decide on the next round of layoffs. After that they will hire.
The good old days are gone, there are plenty of talent out there who do not have job and desperate for a position, so most companies including Chevron do not have to go far a beyond, if and only ever the oil prices go above $100, then they may try to retain the talent but until then you have to make sure you are worth being kept in the company!
They are rewarding their best employees with additional work. The good ones will find out there are better jobs elsewhere.
