Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

They will do everything not to give severance pay?

The next layoff won't be a: real "layoff, they just fire your ass, no severance. You only hear about it piecemeal and the rumor mill. Severance is reserved for the big high profile -15% reduction where they have everyone play musical chairs (Re-org) and kick out the dead wood or those they don't like, >We had one of those before this last one in 2010 remember, then they start the purges calling them things like accelerate downstream. again the next few years as they do more fine tuning type reductions on the quiet (no severance) .They run the numbers on revenue, expenses, capital and dividend to figure out how many they need to reduce each year

ID @1wmi+1afkXX5N. I'm afraid these rumors will come true.

Unocal was even better - 4 months per year of service! People with 20 years got six years pay plus full vesting. Amazing. Everyone left except people with low years or mentally impaired.

@7ayc, Yes that is correct. And anyone who took a decent portion of it an invested is still sittin' pretty. I know of some who did. And many who keep working, living the good life and enjoying it.
It's all good.....

The Texaco COC was like three years salary and instant vesting. Everybody with more than 20 years bailed out and never looked back.

The COC was a “windfall”? Ahahaha! Sure. I guess some of you bend over to take whatever you can get.

Good to know if any layoffs occur this year or next we are covered for severance at least. It is the most generous package they have ever offered in the US (aside from the Change of Control windfalls).

@3rtu yeah, lmao! That's about the mentality of a lot of the people on these boards.
Life is what happens while you're making all these great plans. Be ready to accept it and deal with it.

I’ll be ready and willing to retire in 3 years. Can CVX please schedule the layoffs to happen soon after April 1, 2024? By then, I’ll have 30 years of service and also turn 65. I’ll be ready to collect that 1 year severance check and get 6 months of unemployment.

Entertainment abounds! Buh what happened to whiny superior Karen and her troupe of Millennial douche bag commenters? Bring those guys back for a round of weigh ins!

Negative. That would be fake news from a troll. But thanks for playing. It's always more fun when gullible people fall for false rumors! Pandemic relief is not permanent we—e.
Sorry bro but cool story and all.

Confirmed. HR explained that had to do this partly because everyone in 2020 got it so it has to continue for now to avoid claims of different treatment...

@3hco, That would be false, but nice try. Just checked.

Same severance has been approved thru 2022. 3 weeks for ever year. Just ask HR.

Layoffs are constant since its the only leaver Chevron knows to pull. They will sacrifice anything and everyone except executive management to not shave one penny off the dividend. If you look to work at Chevron be prepared for a layoffs at any time since its not stable.

Not guaranteed in your employment contract but they always offer it in the US to avoid liability. It is pretty standard.

@1wfa, those smaller layoffs you refer to are called ROMs (lookup the acronym), and you’re correct— in these smaller purges of personnel, the company sometimes doesn’t offer up a severance package.

I've been through quite a few smaller layoff rounds with Chevron where no severance was offered. Not sure why anyone would think that it is guaranteed. 57

They will always follow the “legal” advice from the many lawyers they have.

The severance is legal coverage for Chevron. They will always offer it unless you are being fired for cause.
