Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

This place has gone to hell in a handbasket

I'm not even talking about the obvious stuff, like layoffs and cuts in pay and benefits. I'm talking about our culture. We once had a culture that encouraged new ideas, but that has since devolved into an echo chamber of yes-men who are bending over backwards to flatter and agree with those above them. A place with that kind of culture is destined to fail. When no bad decisions are challenged, we get what we have here. That's our disturbing reality.

@1llh+1ahNY5Si I guess the employee needs to ask themselves what is their sanity and health worth? Or, maybe many EM employees made bad financial decisions and now are a slave to the company due to their situation? I have no idea, but it's pretty nuts how many folks are bi-----g and moaning but aren't doing much about it...

Some truth to this thread, but the missing link is the current salary....XOM pays (just in base pay) more than anyone. If you think this isn't correct, you haven't been at XOM for more than 8 years. Now, this will likely change in the next 5-10 years....the problem is the employees dont see that they are frog getting boiled. Many w 12-18 years employment will have hung on too long....just wait

Honest question, why do you continue to work here? I left and and am astounded at how many people are continuing to take the beating. The crazy part is there are many opportunities are out there.. appears EM employees are gluttons for punishment. Don’t give me the bs salary argument. Plenty of equally or better opportunities out there, especially considering 401k and salary increase freeze. GTFO.

Not much incentive to step out the box anymore, especially with another 8% this ranking season. Will likely wait until after pds review session to submit work for the year.

Could not agree more. This workplace is awful. Now the department heads are asking the employees to let them the number of days they worked from home this year because of the pandemic. Workplace flexibility? Not really, this is more like Big Brother watching. Don't you dare work from home or use any other workplace flexibility guidelines. Perfect timing for management to check since they are starting performance assessment period.

Why Zoom? The same reason some VP chose Lotus, Ariba and other c––p. It's called getting paid off baby.

After the layoff I have now joined a tech company and seeing the tech used here I would consider tech used by EMIT and at XOM is pretty much obsolete. Looking as MS Teams integrate so well with other MS products I wonder why EMIT and XOM chose Zoom. I guess because "YouAreExxonMobil" and "EnergyNoLongerLivesThere"

Wrong, the culture has been bad at least since the merger. Any pretense of “embracing new ideas” was no more than people saying “yes” to the executives.
