Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

About to resign in Midland

Was holding out for return of cost of living adjustment and 401k as well as education reimbursement but am tired of waiting. Other companies are paying more than we were making prior to COVID base salary plus have 401k and bonuses. Some have already gone to competitors. Looking for my turn to jump ship.

Shale was part of the Lean In Value Added Chain strategy. Remember that, the Value Added Chain? Never hear that BS anymore, it d–dwith the Lean In strategy. The Wink terminal we bought and improved is at 1/3 or less capacity, the Wink to Webster pipeline after we spent millions and millions on pipe/engineering is never going to be built as there is a ton of midstream capacity already in the market, and the Beaumont Refinery 350 thousand barrels per day expansion had been canceled and we will most likely sell Beaumont. XTO was never able to drill and produce at the costs and volumes they advertised, except on manipulated PowerPoint decks, and the Saudis are not going to let the US shale producers steal their market share. Shale is done for XOM before it even began, it is the Kearl of the South

I feel bad for anyone in Carlsbad. Sorry you were sent there. Hopefully you went with a TDA so you have some hope of leaving?

Broken trust is the issue.

I am basically working a rotation but without the benefit of days off. I have to drive to New Mexico and stay in a man camp all week. I only see my family on the weekends. I will be lucky if I survive this assignment without my wife divorcing me.

If they try transfer you decline. You are taking a pay and lifestyle cut.

I work Delaware from Midland office. The drive to site ki–sme but beats living in NM. Our biggest problem is we built out to produce big volumes and didn’t drill to fill the infrastructure we built.

Midland doesn’t seem to be coming off the rails from an investor perspective yet but if people keep leaving then business results will falter. The rock is good and investment to date good.

Not to mention pay and benefits for few remaining expat jobs have been cut. Why bother?

The few remaining expat roles are pretty bad now. They’ve cut staffing levels so much you are setup to fail unless you can do the work of what used to be 2-3 roles all by yourself.

Why hang on?

ExconMobil - Paid less in b–mtimes. Pay cut at first sign of trouble. Disguised layoff as PIP. Less severance than small operators. Pay slow to be restored if ever. No bonuses. Annual PIP.

As for these expat opportunities I’m not seeing any of my peers getting them. I see them get fired after they transfer because ExconMobil values PowerPoint skills and good old boy network above results.

Workforce is done with waiting for benefits and pay that others never cut. Shareholders are still doing well.

Your comments match ExconMobil talking points but not reality. Those small operators didn’t cut benefits and pay. As for global opportunities what global opportunities? Expat assignments are being cut and in the future oversea support will increasingly come from the BTC not North America. You are living in the past with your comments. The reasons to stay with ExxonMobil of the past are gone.

Carlsbad and Midland were just stop gaps until Guyana was online. The shale play is not a long term solution. Just remember, the current chairman has a background in the downstream. Expect more share and upstream plays to be reduced over the coming years. Best to update your resume

Competitors as in pure shale players? Beware is my only advice. Those that left went to Cimarex, Blackbeard, and other small cap E&Ps...the grass might look greener right now, but seriously consider the long term play.

If you want a US-dominated career, by all means... but at least EM offers global opportunities and is an integrated major. Hang in there and have patience that the benefits will be restored once we can demonstrate market resilience.

Is Midland Basin coming off the rails a bit? I’m trying to read between the lines on some personnel moves I heard about. Sounded like the only thing that was successful in the uncon was starting to falter.

At least you aren’t in Carlsbad. We have to pay New Mexico income tax with no cost of living adjustment. Good luck getting anyone other than EIOs who don’t know anything to move to Midland or Carlsbad now.
