Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Poor communication

One of the big problems at Verizon Communications is precisely the lack of good communication. Ineffective communication is so frustrating and normally leads to a low morale. It seems to me that this has never been worse.
For some things where I expect feedback, I don’t get it fast enough. Maybe this is just my subjective experience, so I wonder if you also think that communication has never been worse?

There’s plenty of communication at Verizon. My manager is on 3 conference calls with his second level and director. They accomplish nothing notable, but they talk every day.

Communication is limited based on what is absolutely necessary to satisfy their objectives. The amount of communication is subjective - some people think it's too much, others not enough. At the end of the day, you decided if it's enough.

There is usually very little communication in a communications company, this is not anything new.

Communications have always been a problem. For example, say you have two applications that work together. Dev A will implement something in App1 that effects App2, but won't tell anyone about in App2. I seen this happen numerous times. Also, the management is g.d awful at communciations.
They just throw around terms like "Shift RIght". Non-management have no say at all on current processes even though it impacts them.

Leaving the company, sounds like a choice, but in the current world, everything doesn't seem that way. Not everyone can just "find another job"

One aspect of poor communication is the lack of backbone or being unable to tell your direct leadership that something is a bad idea or doesn't make sense logically. Example DM tells GM that they must have a rep get on a one hour SMB call, cold calling businesses. The GM's can't say "Hey that isn't going to work because I only have 3 people working today and there is and will definitely be customers coming in that are going to be far more urgent" At Verizon you would have now what is commonly known as the "target on your back" for questioning leadership. You will never get promoted and likely get pushed out or rode. No one speaks up in this company and it's just the next man/women circle jerking bad ideas, policies and business practice all the way to the top.

@yra+1alkTPrc, Does each department operate at its own mindset? this is supposed to be one company, but yet each business unit has their own goals.

Communication is a huge issue at Verizon and has been for a very long time now. But honestly who cares anymore. We just need to take the same approach the company has taken with its employees. Employees just need to stop caring until the company starts showing it cares again. Throwing money at people doesn’t solve anything. People will still be unhappy when a work environment sucks! No one cares about each other and everyone just takes care of themselves. I’ve never worked at a place where I’ve seen so many fake smiles and fake relationships. People just use each other here to get what they need and that’s the company has manifested, because that’s how the company operates. Execs made more money last year than the previous year, and it’s all because of cutting overhead costs. Laying people off or forcing people to quit and not backfilling, but outsourcing. It’s such a sh—y work environment and people are right through the corporate bs.

Speaking of poor communication, can you be a little more specific?
