2-3 resignations in a short period of time is a lot. I worked at ExxonMobil for 21 years, and never saw that many resignations. Just wait until the small O&G companies start seeing enough consistent cash flow to start hiring. With the myth of stability at Exxon gone, you would be an absolute mo..n not to seek maximizing your earnings NOW with a small company.

Probably location dependent - in places like Houston where there aren't many non-O&G options people will often stay put.

I don’t understand this at all. I’m legit a manager, and I just wonder if things are so bad, why are there not more people leaving. I have only seen a max 2-3 resignations in my circle and when I attend PDC, there’s not many changes in the people we discussed. I don’t know if it’s just amplified in a forum like this, where misery attracts the others but it really seems fine to me.

Supervisors and managers in some locations were flagging the risk of employee dissatisfaction and attrition since September. Everybody agreed all the way to Houston. Then something happens between Houston layers and Dallas and now we have surprised Pikachu face because of attrition going up regardless if the site is set for some culling or not.

Big bonus despite lousy business performance also. Must be nice to get that with what should be negative KPIs.

The mood would be much better if DW and his bag boys and girls had led by example and taken a pay cut. We're in this together, remember you a-holes?

Darren Woods deserved all the credit for leading us into this. Zigging while others are zagging!

On a serious note, unable to remove DW shows a major flaw of EM, it is unable to weed out terrible performers that are in the supervisory levels.

I used to be very happy and proud to worked for EM in my past 35+ years. This has taken 180° turn for the worst as a result of the recent unpleasant lay-off exercise, using the PIP/ NSI disguise.

I was considered a valuable employee due to my experience and nature of my work but was forced out in this exercise and made worst of, without severance payouts.

I was happy with XOM until about 2016 when the company started to change drastically. People with lousy technical skills became supervisors, and then some of them managers. When I joined the company, smart, capable people with outstanding skills were promoted.
The attitude changed, constructive criticism was punished, everything became much more top down, after flattening the company in 2019, "surplus" managers were put in XTO (creating 2 new layers of management) that had, and still have no clue about unconventionals (but they make sure you hold the hand rail), several prospects drilled came out dry because they were catered to a geo chief bully without thorough technical work, and the list goes on and on. I guess I should get be getting out of here before I'm fired for being honest.

EMIT here - save for the VP and maybe a subset of his direct reports, most managers are either aware of, or starting to get how big the attrition problem has become. I have friends across the various business lines that are starting to see some of the same, though IT is probably the most extreme case for now. While it’s satisfying to see this happen and hopefully punish the decades of poor management decisions in that area, I’m also afraid to think that they will make some extreme moves and do something like outsource the entire IT organization like they did with big chunks of GREF (now E&PS) in recent years. It won’t be a “layoff” because at least in the short term people get to keep their jobs.

I have applied to several jobs amend will continue to do so until I can find my way off this burning dumpster fire known as ExxonMobil.

You are oh so wrong. Every forum I am in with anonymous slido questions these issues are top voted. That includes the monthly meeting my VP has with management only. I am in management and I see this throughout the organization. Everyone is pi–––d off at what is happening. Something needs to change now. The company is hemorrhaging good people.

My manager just resigned today in Midland.

Resignations are accelerating. Higher CLs and longer time with the company jumping ship for better pay at competitors.

It's a commodity company - selling beans - and to be frank, it always has been.
All the dreams of science, technology, the future were comforting to us.
Finally the sheet's been torn off - and it's beans.

I like working for EM. Great company, challenging work, good pay and excellent benefits.

No one is around to hold DW and co. accountable. Lack of management accountability has been a problem at this company for my entire career. Too much power concentrated at the top. No demotions, no punishment for bad behavior at higher CLs. Every employee who owns shares should be voting in support of Engine No. 1
