Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Will they know?

Is there any way for Honeywell to know I'm applying for other jobs outside of the company? Other than the company contacting them for references, which brings me to my other question: is there a way to ensure that the place you are applying to does NOT contact your current employer?

Honeywell HR will only know when contacted by hiring company to confirm you’re a Honeywell employee, this is done as last step before sending you the offer letter. References may be checked by the hiring manager just before the letter is written as a warm and fuzzy ( you can always ask the hiring manger to let you know they’ll be doing that so you can give a heads up to your references) companies do not contact references unless they’re very serious about hiring you and are at the last step, they don’t just call Honeywell to let them know!

They aren’t going to contact your current employer. That only happens when doing a background check on you as you have an offer in hand that you accepted. Even then they aren’t contacting your management, it is a HR confirmation that you work there... nothing said about your interviews. I’m shocked people don’t know this! No one ever give their management contact info. No company should ever even ask for that.

Last time I checked, HW prohibits managers from giving out references of any kind, due to legal implications.

Companies do not contact another company directly before a hiring decision is made. Any personal references are contacted directly, and would have been names you provided. Most companies are aware of the very poor reputation of Honeywell, and regularly hire the better staff away.

Peers outside the company don’t want to work for this place, even colleges recruitment events come up empty, they will resort to lying to try to bring in bodies knowing they won’t last long once they see how things really are

I had a company tell one of my employees that I interviewed there, even though I really hadn't. They called me and asked if I was interested, and I said no. So, NO, you can't keep Honeywell from knowing you are interviewing. You can tell them not to contact your current employer.

This is what happens if they find out.
1) if they really want you long term, they will offer you money or a "high touch" job that they hope you find so interesting to stay.

2) they view you as replaceable and don't care if you stay or go. Not good to do this early in the 4th quarter where 9 blocks get fixed.

Best thing is to have 3 people you trust that agree to use as a reference on the down low from Honeywell and HR.
Especially if you are laid off as no one at Honeywell is allowed to be a reference for you if you get laid off. And if you are laid off, companies will demand references. I was lucky that a director and 2 peer managers agreed to help out on the side for me.

They are happy to have you leave without a severance payout. It gives them an opportunity to spread your work to the people you left behind for an EEI boost. They discourage people sitting in one job for more than a few years because the one worse thing than a RIF payout is a US person you can’t afford to get rid of.

Always decline to have a potential employer contact HW. If they are truly interested this shouldn't be a problem.

Olathe is so bad that we have the added excuse of telling them that we get a new supervisor every other month and the current one has 100 people to juggle.

Most reputable companies are good about not contacting your current employer. Employed people look for jobs all the time.

Why would you hide the fact you are interviewing? You should always be interviewing for new jobs.
Of course make sure you are not using a Honeywell laptop or phone and you will need to take vacation time when doing the interview if it isn’t after hours.

Again.. do not use a Honeywell laptop for this purpose. That would be misuse of company equipment.
