Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

How many hours are we expected to work?

I'd really like to know how many hours does this leadership expect us to work each day with the amount of work they've been dumping on our plates? Sometimes I can't get everything done in 12 hours, not to mention 8. I'm starting to think that those who were laid off got the better end of the deal.

There are two types of work weeks at Honeywell for salaried personnel. The first is for personnel that are bonus eligible. Kiss your work/life balance goodbye in this group. The second work week is for the rest of the personnel. Don't work for free. The only reason the first group works the hours that they do is to make sure you work free hours so that they get a bigger bonus. The U.S. Beareau of Labor and Statistics defines a legal work week as 40 hours. If you don't get a bonus, don't bother.

@3ymr+1apUFv7A You're partly right, but if you can get the job done with eight hours per day then you will get more work. EEI still exists just under a different name. My manager only recently stopped talking about how our group overtime compared to other groups and I think that was only due to the hack.

Well, they expect the work done regardless of how many hrs you spend a day, 8 – 24 hrs a day as long as it gets done and you get paid 8hrs , may be with OT if you’re a band 3. (No OT if you’re a band 4 and low to none MIP) next step for cost cutting is to cancel OT. So then you’re not efficient enough or cannot manage your time well to do the work in the 8 hrs/day, lower HPD at year end. And on and on until they hire more people. They see RIF as irrelevant by the way as it’s short term.

Don’t work over 40 hours, don’t let the job burn you out and ultimately find a better place that respects the work–life balance, the talent loss is at a hemorrhaging rate at this point

Can a timecard accept more than 24 hours in day?

Time to get off the hamster wheel. No matter what, it's all going offshore at some point. Best move on.

I do about 20 minutes of real work a day and proud of it!

@1pef+1apUFv7A - Perfect Manager comment. I have heard this many times from managers. It seems managers are told to not ever talk about a lack of people or people having too much work. Likely this is a mandate from corporate. Make sure workers have 100% + X% work, push issues down, take no responsibility. Oh, and never help. Any and all issues - there is an employee at the root of it.

They pay for 40 hours and they get 40 hours. If they want more they better pay up.

Work smarter not longer. Look at why you're not efficient with your time. Cut out waste. Hours does not equate to quality work.

Ask yourself, what has working more than 40hrs a week got you? It got me "at standard" rating, low pay increase this year, and more work. And emphatically, not even a thank you. If you do a lot of work in today's environment Managers think everything is just ok because the work gets done or they think you have it too easy and can take on more. If they know you are willing to and can get things done, well then the piling on happens. It seems few managers actually know what the workers have to do or even care to get involved so they really don't understand how hard or much work you are doing. Only way to ever change this is to not keep going above and beyond, stop working weekends and nights, don't do work for other groups or other sites outside your responsibility. Hon I find does not care.

The requirement is as much as anyone else around you. Rack and stacks are relative to your peers.

But here is the truth for salaried employees right from HR when I asked. There is no actual requirement. There is not even a requirement to work a 40 hour work week. You don't even have to record 40 hour in the system. You get paid regardless. If documentation ever leaked that there was a 50 hour or 60 hour a week expectation, they could open themselves up to litigation. That was why a couple years back legal made us remove all mentions of EEI from performance reviews and told us never to use the term around employees.

You need to maintain your group’s EEI metrics.

Remember, your personal EEI drops to 0 when you are on vacation and any company sponsored holidays need to be made up with interest.

See HR for details.

Of course those laid off are better of. Money in the pocket and a better job elsewhere. Somewhere where people are appreciated......
I put in about 8 hours last week. Not per day ..... in the whole week!
Painted, grocery shopping, gardening - during the rest of the work days. The only problem is when filling in timesheets. But; fake it till you make it. Just like moneymonkey does.

Work the hours shown on your pay stub, nothing more, nothing less, they want more output then they need to hire more people

At a skip level meeting a few years ago, one of the directors asked us why we thought a regular work week was only 40 hours. That should tell you all you need to know.

It will not get better.

Too much won't be enough. Ideally, I think they would like to see 168 hours, or at least tell you how to vote and what church to attend. Honeywell is so 1984.
