Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

How satisfied are you with your career here?

Some former colleagues who went to other companies did great things there. Here their ideas were quite underestimated. I came here full of enthusiasm and then I started to lose all ambition. Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about whether maybe I could have achieved a lot more and progressed more if I had left too. I'm not satisfied with what I achieved here

@1cmd+1arBQ9Cv It didn't used to be that way. I joined in 1996 and the first 5 – 6 years, Cisco was the greatest place I had ever worked. After the big layoff in 2001, Cisco started going downhill and has been going downhill ever since.

What you need is 25 hours of touchy–feely cr–p in teams week.

Last week I made a presentation. I dumbed it down so people would get it. They still didn't.

"toxic work environment, political sh!t ongoing, unnecessary visibility seeking, endless useless meeting with no outcome"

It’s not about career. Sometimes it’s about toxic work environment, political sh!t ongoing, unnecessary visibility seeking, endless useless meeting with no outcome

Working at a legacy network equipment company is not a career in 2021.

Cisco hasn't been a growth company for more than a decade. They've done nothing innovative for more than a decade and are now more focused on ridiculous woke propaganda than delivering value to customers.

Leave now.

Cisco was good despite JC during the dot com bubble. If he had left by 2002 Cisco would be top of the world now.

Cisco was fantastic 2000 to about 2012. Things changed when JC packed up and left. I rode it out till 2018 for the options and RSUs. The money was good. After my LR I have had several jobs. Most places are the same. There are people who like politics and drama, and then there are the people that really do the work. Overall work is work; try to enjoy it as much as possible. Always try to keep up your skills with new certs. Get a good hobby to clear your mind. Make sure you save your money if staying for the pay. Lots of my friends here in similar boat, many made it almost 20–ish years before their LR. If you played your cards right you can walk with enough to almost retire if you save and don't splurge on BMWs. Not sure if that is still the norm. When you hit 50, especially if you know what you are doing in technology work; your ability to tolerate poor management will dramatically decrease. That is normal. Move on if not happy or motivated. If you are skilled there are tons of good paying jobs out there. Good luck.

Just go and interview out there for growth opps you're interested in – absolutely nothing to lose while you're in a position to make a choice, instead of HAVING to.

The culture definitely changed to lack of empowerment many years ago, which means that if you're a grade 11–12 they can always find a reason why you didn't power enough of a change given the limits imposed on you.
