Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Fresh from the press-effects of last VSP

“In 2018, Verizon announced a goal to achieve $10 billion in cumulative cash savings by the end of 2021. At the end of first–quarter 2021, the company achieved its goal, ahead of its target. Verizon will continue to create additional savings opportunities going forward through ongoing cost efficiency activities”

Do you think additional savings opportunities means another VSP package to be offered?

VZ has not been able to increase sales revenue in a meaningful way in the last 5 years. So cost cutting is the way to earnings. FWIW the WSJ reports Verizon Media is for sale.

Have to disagree with purchased of Yahoo/AOL being worst decision VZ ever made. How about VZ paying Vodaphone $120 billion for their 45% share of Wireless? At that point wireless growth was plateauing & VZ had other opportunities to purchase Vodaphone's share years prior at much lower cost. How much debt is VZ currently carrying? Think of position VZ would be in without that extra $120 billion burden.

VSP was the worst mistake ever. To lose 10% of the Highest Quality & Experienced employees, to save a couple billion dollars was another Verizon blunder. Goes down in the books as the worst decision Verizon has made since the purchase of Yahoo & AOL.

Dummy options always go down the day of earnings. It’s called implied volatility.

Is cash flow even "free" if it costs someone their job?

A lot of work went to optimizing and cutting down costs beyond the VSP. I'm so tired of people obsessed with a VSP. You know what would be good? If people lived within their means and maxed out their Roth IRA and 401k so they're not desperate for a VSP. If folks were responsible, a VSP would be a nice to have thing rather than something that people are thirsty about.
