Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

I don’t even know if I’m still employed

I am currently a BNY employee and was told that there is a good chance I won’t have a job here going forward. But They told me I might depending on how the year transpires. So essentially if I play my cards right I still might have a job (keep in mind If I am still employed has nothing to do with my actual job performance). Imagine telling that to your employees.

Start looking and prepare:

Ramp up 401k to max it out unless you’ll get a new job right away.
Submit all flex reimbursement forms ASAP.
Print out any records you want to keep – or ask compliance if you can email yourself a soft copy (I did).

You’ll be better off in the end.

Reminds me of the saying...I'll gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today.

Your manager is dangling a carrot to keep you putting unnecessary effort into a position that will absolutely be eliminated. Don't stress about what will (or will not happen).

Do only put in the minimum effort toward completing tasks day to day. Figure out your current debt and monthly payments then determine how long you will receive SUB. If laid off, now is a good time because (due to the economic impact of covid) creditors are offering greater flexibility for paying. Just call them as soon as you are laid off , ask for the financial hardship department and see what timeframe they can offer for reduced monthly payments and pause any additional interest fees.

Things will work out.

At least they're up front. My manager told us our jobs wouldn't be affected even though there were layoffs. Had us believing until the very end that we were ok. We had a business meeting the day before discussing business and no mention of cuts. The next day, several of us get a call about expenses and our jobs are being impacted and that was it. Blown away but not really shocked.

If it has nothing to do with your job performance, what do you mean about playing your cards right???

It likely has nothing to do with your job performance and there is likely nothing you can do to affect the decision on cutting your position or moving it to India.
