Resignation process?

Can anyone tell me what happens when you submit a letter of resignation? Do you have to tell them where you have accepted another offer? If so, what happens if it is a competitor? I am try to time when to give my two–week notice. Thanks in advance...

OP here, I have not resigned yet. I got the offer as assumed, still working out start date and I have to go through background check with the new employer, etc. I'll report back.

When I quit I brought in the stinkiest salmon I could find and then I microwaved it for 5 minutes longer than I had to. Once the smell spread throughout the building I threw out the salmon and headed to Phoever for lunch ;)

Is two weeks customary for senior management and Director + roles?
Also, it sounds strange to ask to be put on a layoff/severance list...is there such a thing? If so, is will that work for a top performer? I feel like i would get some resistance from my manager

Try this: Tell your manager and HR you want to be put on the severance list for separation or retirement. If you've been there a while and they like you, it may work out that you get a nice package. If layoffs happening now (I believe so) your chances are very good to wait for that package if you don't have another job lined up and formalized yet.

Dont tell them where you're going. Let them find out when you update your LinkedIn profile. And while you are working your last two weeks, be prepared for them to cut it short. If your manager is a jerk, then he may tell you when your last day is. I've seen that happen before. Best of luck to you! And congrats on getting a new job in this crazy environment.

Be prepared to still work the 2 weeks, even if you go to work for another bank. Some associates believe they will be walked about immediately and paid for 2 weeks, but that's not always the case. I've seen B4– B7 expected to continue working after giving 2 week notices. It must be a LOB decision to keep and pay or walk and pay.

In the USA you'd generally just let them know that you are leaving your position, two weeks from now. (If you want to be nice)

Let them know you're leaving.
Let them know on what date.

That's literally it, unless you're in an actual contracted position that requires something else. (If you were, you would know, That arrangement is not common at all)
You never have to tell your current gig where you're going. They may ask, but it's up to you. I never tell.

Of you tell them it's a competitor they will March you out the door immediately. Do not pass to do not collect $200.00. It happened to a couple of teammates who went to work for Deutsche Bank. Wait as long as you can, give them the customary 2 weeks and be prepared weather they ask or not that's your last day.
