You aren’t bullet proof until you are within 3 years of 55 AND within 3 years of having or exceeding 15 years with the company.

You are right. Truly high performers were not laid off. They left ExxonMobil soon after hiring on when they realized what a sh–t ho–e this company is.

In your world “truly high performers” who “were not laid off” are the “hi–po”s who are served softball assignments, collect the work of regular technical people and present the summary in front of the management, to great applause.
Soon you and your corporate puppeteers are going to be left with just those hand–picked zeros. You might actually have to do some work then, if you still remember what that is.

From under what rock have you just crawled ?
1 – I wish the REs would be treated as OP says, it would be the perfect evidence for a winning age discrimination lawsuit. It’s never going to happen.
2 – EM is getting rid of REs because they’re “expensive”. Why do you think that is ? Why does the industry pay more for experience ? Out of their good hart ? Because after 55 they’re “coasting”?
3 – if you’re younger than 50, do you think the right reaction is to gloat about the way the company treats the REs ? Are you naive enough to still think you’ll ever become RE?
4 – what would a corporate troll do to distract attention from the miserable way the company treats its employees ? How about pitting younger ones against older ones, if they can find some dim enough to do their bidding ?

Not true. I was 51, a high performer with experience across the board, and laid off in Dec regardless.

RE folks have likely been coasting since turning 50 and becoming defacto "bulletproof" and should have been NSI'd / let go last year. Consider the extra year of pay their "package".

Forget RE. I've been RIP for the past 3 years, so no more salt needed on my gravy.
Ready for the macrowave bye–bye.

if you're retirement eligible and 3 months pay means anything to you... then you're not really eligible to retire because you're too poor.

Those RE that did not volunteer have worked for free for the company – thanks from Darren! They will now retire June 30 as interest rates spike. Alternatively, they could continue gambling and enjoy the inescapable NSI they are going to slap on them come August!

@szp+1auQLBCo,

I totally agree with your post. I think it is a matter of principal at this point and how the company treats people that have devoted a big part of their life to this company. That being said we don't know everyone's financial situation and it may be a bit bold to expect everyone to have an emergency fund and be prepared to lose their job at a moments notice. Are there RE employees that deserve to be let go that way? Sure, but the vast majority have been good employees over the decades or they would not still be around.

I don't understand why there is such a fuss about if there will be 3 months severance or not. I suspect they will leave it at 3 months, which is basically nothing anyway. There must be a lot of people at work living paycheck to paycheck. Everyone should have an emergency fund. That way if you are fired or decide to quit you are not immediately in financial trouble. You will have control over your life instead of being at the mercy of the company and dependent on whatever little bone they throw you.

Why not? Morale can't get any lower. If that is not a get the he–l out while you can signal I don't know what is. It would not surprise me but I would think it would be the same package for all NSI employees. Only doing that to RE folks could open them up for discrimination lawsuits.

Lol. I'm OK with that day. But that's not soon. The next wave will be retirement eligible employees who are NSI and couldn't see this coming.

Company saved a lot of money by retirement eligible not electing to participate in the program. They are clearly NSI and just need to be let go.
