Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Product is hiring! (Or not)

Product leadership: we're hiring! Give us referrals please!
Product line managers: don't listen. We're still only allowed to backfill, and then only if absolutely necessary to keep the lights on.
LinkedIn: 50 of your TR colleagues just announced job changes! Would you like to see where they went?

[I'm starting to get a picture of what's going on here, but maybe you see things differently: is your manager allowed to hire? Or is it still layoff city? ]

Product directors and managers are leaving left and right according to daily linkedin announcements. The issue is that their roles are not being backfilled and their products are being rolled into the portfolio of remaining product directors without any promotion to them. The teams under the directors that leave are being downsized or offshored. This is one way of managing the “transformation” but the last product director standing will have their hands full managing inexperienced teams abroad, with early mornings and late nights, all for the same paycheck. The downsizing strategy doesn’t seem sustainable.

I'm predicting more development moving overseas and maybe a sale happening soon. I've been developing for 40 years and younger people always say we can move jobs overseas and save money. I left and where I'm at now is moving development back to the u.s. people never learn

I don’t get it. Tax, Corporates and Legal software are all without Heads. Expected promotions at the manager & director level did not happen or were meager and people left. No backfills allowed. New roles listed but only in Toronto and for digital. Upcoming software product teams moving to India. What am I missing?
