Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Exhausting atmosphere....

BOA is not the only company where your connections are almost the most important, but it is very pronounced here. Therefore, it is no wonder that some people spend more time making contacts with "important" people here than they are actually dedicated to their work. It's starting to exhaust me because I came here to do my job, work hard and not to try to be a part of some clique in order to succeed.

From how things turnout in the dept I work in it’s almost like every other department we work with is actually a competing company with how bad communication and getting them to do things are

@1sfw that's a good point and most likely due to the compartmentalization and lack of understanding prevalent in this type of business. I've worked with people that intentionally caused problems downstream just because they were too lazy to solve or proactively prevent the problems. Passing the buck and throwing the blame on other departments. If they can't shine, they will throw mud on the other guy.

Agree. As a manager myself, I see my peers just kicking back and not really worried about doing their job or managing their people causing issues for other teammates. Way too cliquey.

It's all tribal and territorial, especially with so many companies morphed into one. You have to constantly network and develop your connections, learn about different departments, functions, jobs...etc while keeping an eye on your competition and on the people who actually don't like you. Those guys are the ones that can block your moves and derail your plans. Read The Art of War and apply it. Choose your friends carefully, they can turn on you. Extra points for reading The Prince by Niccolò Machiavelli, that guy knew how to work the system. He's a darling of the corporate world.
