Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Why lay off and pay severance when you can get people to quit?

I've started noticing this as more people keep quitting. Exxon has found a perfect way to get rid of us. They keep piling on more work combined with constant criticism and mixed in with good, old stress until people break and walk away. They don't pay severance, they don't pay unemployment, nothing. And sadly, it's working perfectly.

@abe - I'm calling BS on that one. EM doesn't have any work locations within - or close to - the London Underground network.

Sometimes I wonder how people still there are doing, but then I remember that not one of them had the guts to say this was wrong when all this started happening. People from the outside don't get it. Exxon is a firm that never says, "you don't have to do that anymore," so as they let people go, people will be forced to work more and more hours, and you might find you are more appreciated on the outside, and maybe even paid better. I didn't land "better" financially except that I realized I was wasting a lot of money. With less money, I have more saved, deal with less BS, and since leaving, I have worked for a managing director of another firm and shook hands with a billionaire. I don't have to do any useless systems that simply point the finger at the worker, and I still get a 6% match. The pension is vested, so what would I say to people? Life's too short to be miserable all the time. You're skills have value, and that Exxon has tried to convince you otherwise is reason enough to leave.

They have been trying to force people to quit for at least three years now. Have you been under a rock? Thousands have also been forced to retire over the last three years. This was not caused by the pandemic but poor leaders that made poor decisions.

I'm a Brit so I pretend like I'm about to miss the last evening train on the tube and dash toward the printer like a mad man to collect my print outs! I'm not a spring chicken anymore so my knee hurts at the end of the day but its worth it to show the magistrates my high value.

I have to admit that writing as fast as possible on my notepad everytime an XOM manager speaks (because their words are pure gold) is stressful! Having to run to the printer every hour is also tiring but I think I can keep this up for a few more years. I might have to cut down on my power walks around the floor however.
