Horizons Facility Engineer PSG

Hello, I anticipate getting an offer to start with Chevron in a month or so as a FE in their horizons program. Does anyone here have insight into the PSG and the actual starting pay I can expect? I just graduated with my bachelors in ocean engineering.

Thanks!

Hopefully you will get as much as you can prior to the next re-org.

You can expect to come in at PSG 20 and making about 105-110k. Currently those in the Horizons program have been starting there, some higher some slightly lower, depending on your background.

The mega project cost over runs were followed by complete engineering failures. Gorgon pots. ALNG slug catcher. Technical FE failures of the most fundamental sort. Shocking.

The FE Horizons Program is a joke, it's a shell of what it used to be. It consists of a few videos and the suggestion to walk down the hall and ask someone (anyone) if you have a question. That's it. I sure do hope they portrayed it that way to you. You'll make a good salary, but basically your job will be to monitor what some consultants are doing, and put your approval on it. Chevron does little of its own FE work, out-sourcing the real work. When you start, inquire about Chevron's FE experience at Gorgon (massive cost overrun), Tengiz FGP (massive cost overrun), and Angola LNG (massive cost overrun). Do you see the trend?

With bachelors you will probably come in as about PSG 20. The salary range is in an older post here from a few years ago... google is your friend.

The PSG ranges should be out on the web somewhere. If they're old, just calculate a cost of living increase for each year out of date.

It's important to arrive at a starting salary you are content with as that will be the basis of your ascent up to higher psgs. Don't jump at the initial offer, but also don't be a total to---r with an unrealistic number.

Keep in mind that 10 years in you'll probably see you salary rise by at least 1/3 or more of the initial salary.

The layoffs forum is a good place to start. you'll be here for actual layoff info before long, so you might as well familiarize yourself with the layout.
