How long for off-cycle pay increase to process

GTO Software Engineer III, I received a promotion to Feature Lead in early January, and asked my manager about compensation and an official title adjustment due to the promotion. My manager informed me that skip-level manager submitted a request to HR for a pay increase and title change with the justification of the new role and duties, etc. This has been 4+ months ago, yet nothing has happened. Is this normal? What is taking so long? When can I expect to hear anything? What is the typical percentage based increase? I’ve been in the new role for 6 months now and it just feels like I’ve been taken for a ride.

Many years ago I managed some processes with FNMA making $42k, found out a peer was making $65k and immediately started to interview. Got an offer for $60k at another company and my manager got a market adjustment approved within two weeks for an $18k raise.

If they want it done, it'll get done fast.

It sounds like they are waiting to see if you can deliver their expected results in your new role. The company seems to have transformed into a sweat shop.

I would keep asking. Let them know you did not forget.

I was made a Team Lead 5+ years ago, from my normal position. Never got a raise or title change. Do twice as much work now. If you were promised a promotion, great! But I know many, including myself, that were made Team Leads and received no additional money or title changes, just more hours and more work. Good luck!

Sounds like the typical lip service. Sorry to hear that. But unfortunately it happens here.

They can turn this around in a matter of days if they want to so don't think it's happening I'm afraid. I'm not sure if SE III to Feature Lead is officially a step up on the SDM chart (although if you read the role description it seems to be) so maybe they are finding it harder to justify to HR. I have known individual contributors step up into leading teams and get no extra comp for several years. They are sold the opportunity for future rewards..

Pay and directory update should’ve been within 2-4 weeks after approval timed with pay cycle. Four months is too long.

Often it will align with the annual compensation process, so it may take quite while for the change to occur. The best thing is to continue to follow up with you manger to gain a clear understanding of the status and expected timeline.

keep following up with your manager in your 1:1 meetings. Or ask them to give you the HR contact to follow up with. dont let them take you for a ride.
