Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Resignation...FINALLY

Folks, I have had enough of all the bad apples with whom I work at Nike Tech. I am witnessing a complete lack of communication, lack of accountability, clear favoritism towards "friends" of the hiring managers, backstabbing and gossip, lack of direction, no inspiration, no leadership, and too many Drs, SrDr and VPs occupied by people unsuitable of such roles. The level of disrespect between people is at an all time high. Time for me to prioritize my mental health and physical health
above all. Also, the thought of going back to the office is just not sitting right with me. I am notgetting laidoff (too bad, really), but I am resigning soon. Yes, of course I am being offered a new position elsewhere. Questions: I have a ton of unused PTO; does that get paid to me upon leaving? What about bonus (if we get one) given that I will still be employed after 6/1/2021 (until end of June)?

I thought JD was a tech guy, how can it be getting worse, he worked at a real tech company ServiceNow.

Maybe bring his wife up from Stanford to get it straitened out, on YouTubes she looks pretty fierce.

PTO is paid out, however it’s not paid out like normal pay... it’s taxed much higher, like a bonus.

Check with your tax person (or friends that know this well).. if you have a ton of PTO being paid out, then you’ll likely be thrown into a higher tax bracket & then owe more at end of year vs. what you planned via payroll deductions.

next job,.. might want to have more deducted than usual to cover this.

@1ygj, thank you, & LOL (in the best possible way). My recommendation: by all means, have a conversation with your direct manager on zoom ONLY when you are truly ready to resign. Be professional and do not, in any way, speak badly about anything or anyone. No need for that; it is a small world after all and it is never a good idea to burn bridges. You do not have to tell your manager the reasons why you want to resign; keep it generic and concentrate on your learning journey and growth. Do not expect any counter offers. Thank your manager. Finally, after the meeting, make formal by following up with an equally professional email signaling your resignation (there are many examples or even templates to help you with writing a good one). Cheers, @1ygj, and best of luck.

Any tips on resigning via zoom?

@bwn, thank you. Agreed; not leaving until end of June. Hope to get laidoff after June 1, though...LOL. Can a person be lucky enough?!!!

Don't resign until after end of day June 1. Just because you don't start your new job until the end of June doesn't mean Nike won't tell you to leave earlier. Especially if you are going to a competitor.

OP here. Thank you all for sharing your experiences and/or observation and thank you for those who answered the question about PTO and bonus. I know I am making the right decision for me and for my family but it helped me to read your responses. Thank you, again, for that.

@ses, please refresh your understanding of the new PSP criteria; clearly, what you stated in in fact wrong.

Wishing you all the best in whatever you elect to do now and forever.

@cpl

I had the same experience. Sr. Director just brought over a bunch of people he knew to be Directors in our group. They were pretty clueless about the industry and their main skills only seemed to be knowing how to navigate Nike's matrix. Of course, the people they ended up hiring were just as clueless. No wonder we ended up going to outside agencies for a lot of the projects.

Honestly, I think most of Nike Tech could just go away. Nike has no business trying to be an IT organization. How much money gets blown on creating tools/products that are barely used? They don't even consider white labeling anything to at least try to make some money selling it to other companies. Just a huge financial sinkhole.

Tech, and especially IE, is a true mess. Inappropriate people (friends of Sr Dirs) were hired into roles. During the interview process a while back, I was shown resumes and asked what I thought. When I responded "This person has no experience in this area" the answer was, "Well, they know someone so they are probably coming in." This happened in some shape or form several times in IE. And now everyone is scrambling and there is a saturation of the wrong people in the wrong job. No vision. No leadership.

The good people are starting to leave as they cannot carry this mess that they opposed being pulled together in the first place. -And the working groups concept (which means folks now have two jobs) was a jacked up idea. They must be dissolved and things need to be normalized. Even the titles make no sense. Project Managers marching around saying, "I'm an E-band Coach." Spare me.

I am so sorry to hear that the lack of leadership and nepotism is causing you to resign your position. It's been so bad for so long, especially in Nike Tech.

Best wishes and I am sure you will find a better job in a company that has integrity and treats people with respect.

@ses as I understand bonuses are no longer modifiable by your rating from your mgr.

@ses Is this true about having bonus modified? That's bull if true, I've earned my bonus (and then some) this year, and also might be in a situation where I leave the company in the next few weeks.

You’ll get your PTO but your bonus will likely be reduced at your managers discretion. Don’t resign until bonuses are paid.

OP, congratulation! Good for you. Yes, PTO is paid out and according to Nike's HR handbook/policies, you will get a bonus (if we get one this year) as long as you are employed passed 6/1, not terminated, or violated any policies. This will be paid out in August not when you walk away, of course.
