Your old pal Deep Throat here. I thought I would add some clarity to the attrition topic.
First things first, tracking attrition is not new despite what some here are saying. Any company with half a brain should do this. Of course there are different types of (voluntary) attrition.
There’s;
- Non-Regretted attrition:
i) Give the poor ba----d a low review/no raise so he’ll quit in disgust type
ii) Make the poor bastards move, and insult them by not paying for the move, so they’ll quit in disgust type
iii) So and So quit, but he’s a 2 or average Checkpoint, so, well maybe we liked him, but maybe we didn’t. Short career “runway”. So not really “regretted”, more of a, “We wish him well” type
- Regretted attrition:
i) 2+ or 1 (consistently) or positive Checkpoint across all metrics with good raise and RSU's. Plus skills and a potentiality high performing future (all bands but esp 10 and up) and under 40 (long career “runway”)
ii) Most regretted are by race and gender. IOW, a high performing, high-p-t minority quits? (Yes this is tracked) Esp if they're 10+. Well that raises all sorts of red flags, sometimes all the way up the food chain, literally to the CEO. (Conversely D+ white male quits, “Please close the door on your way out”. UNLESS they’re on the SVP/GM track. Yes, there are tracks for these)
iii) Both of these are; “Well sh-t, who hired ‘em, now what?” type
So ALL types are monitored, and have been for years and years. And just to clarify, the C-Suite are fully aware, here in May 2021, of the morale problems inside IBM, despite all the public utterances about how wonderful IBM is.
Extra: Remember we have made less than 1b so far in 2021. Hard to believe that in 2012 and 2013, the profit for both full years was OVER 16b each. I’ll say it again, Krishna is a good guy, we will see if he manages. (Yours truly DT rates him a low C+). Kavanaugh, as if you needed me to remind you, is a low performing sh-t-head. Whitehurst has a milquetoast feel about him, but I could be being unfair. Hope I’m wrong.
Your pal
