Member Specialist Positions

Ok, I know this was asked before, however I would like to ask again. We have people who wish to move to the front end as one of the Member Specialists. Now these people get told they are not qualified because they are not front end. This makes no sense to me. To make matters worse, why are they advertising these positions online? Please can I get some help here?

I work as a part-time member specialist and we have five full-timers. Two of the five full time member specialists don’t pull their weight in credit. I get around on average 5 or more credit every single day I work and this is at Sam’s that is a lot smaller than most and not in a big city. It’s favoritism from the managers of the two full timers who don’t get numbers and do anything but their job. One doesn’t even get credit at all, but it gets looked over because they’ve been at our club for a few years. The other one doesn’t push on self checkout and wanders off. They get around 2 credit a day and act like they’re a COS. This is after they had to bust their as--s showing they could produce to even get the position in the first place. Now they’re just complacent. They call in a lot and I’ve only called in once because I had a fever and couldn’t work because of the assessment we take. I’ve only been here 2 years and let me tell you I’ve come a far way from when I first started. They took a chance on giving this position to me and believe me I’m grateful for it, but I feel like I’m being under appreciated. I worked 40hr work weeks these past two weeks but then I get sh-t on when they don’t need me and get 30hrs a week. That’s roughly $130 less in just that small amount of hours. Mind you, I usually work 36+ hours weekly. I get abused by having to work multiple days in a row, usually 7+ when they get set days off and a set schedule. I work different times though I usually close. He-l in our plus event that just ended I got on average 7 upgrades a day. Wanna guess what those two got? Me and at least 2 other of the full-timers are sick of it, along with our COS’s. They didn’t even want one of them in the position but one of our managers went over them. They wanted to give me the full time position and one my co-workers the part-time. They deserved it too. Nothing will change though as we’ve tried taking to our mangers and nothing gets done. I should definitely talk to our DM.

I’m a member specialist and I hate the position. They want you to be all in the members face, not to stop talking to them until they’ve said NO 3 times. What happened to NO MEANS NO.I refuse to lie to them people telling them that they are pre approved for that high interest credit card.I HATE IT HERE.I was told that they are no other full time positions available. So I guess it’s time I be on my way out.

I got the answer. I called Workday and they do not REJECT ANYONE!!!!! The reason you get an email saying they have gone in another direction is because the job has been filled with someone else. I can stand just about anything except LIARS.

The answer is no, workday does not reject on its own. Your club people person, club manager, assistant manager/leads in that hiring chain can manually.

I see no answer to my question, does Workday reject your internal application if you are not coded on the front end?

ANYONE can apply for any position. You have to pass the assessment and interview. Training is provided. So that is just an issue in your club. We moved a cart associate to specialist here. We have had regular associates become TL in other areas. Etc.

I believe it is harder to replace a GREAT associate in another area than it is to train a person off the street to do membership. If a manager were to move someone over then it’s back to square one to fill the position they left. Take it as a compliment, unless the only reason you want to move is to get full time or a pay raise. Has the person applying for the transition been showing membership goals achieved in the position they are already in or not? We had a merchandiser that consistently got upgrades and credits, it was a no-brainer to select him over others including experienced front-enders that were underachievers. If you were hiring in this case what would YOU do?

If you apply they have to interview you, if they don’t interview you go above their heads to district manager. I had applied for a position in fulfillment I had covered the department when everyone was out with Covid instead of giving it to me they hired a person off the streets full time for morning, I asked why I wasn’t given a interview and got no where, I emailed the district manager and what do you know I’m given the interview then they offered me full time nights and I said no I want full time mornings, so they had to give it to me. My point is don’t be afraid to go above your managers head or you will always be turned down speak up for yourself if you want something

Manager in our store is blaming Workday, saying because people are not coded for the front end they do not qualify for the position. When these new positions were created, it was our understanding that front end people would get the first opportunity as well as making some cashiers FT and giving raises. One person who has applied has been rejected four times. This person has cashiered, worked the door, worked self checkouts, was a member champ and assists membership all the time and now is a merchandiser.

We had a manager who tried that. I started doing the breaks at the door and self check. Couldn't say I wasn't qualified any longer. Got the job.

Even at that, they hire people off the street for member specialist, and cashier. How are they qualified? Besides that, it is really easy to learn how to be a member specialist. It isn't rocket science.

I think your manager doesn't like the people applying for the job. Still he/she can't stop you from applying.
