Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Future at UOP

Do you guys think UOP can recover it's glory days with the new management changes that are occurring? I see a lot of younger folks being put into high level management positions and it is possible that they could drive change as well as the numerous green business lines springing up.

The results of the Glint survey indicate that more than half of UOP is displeased and I wonder what they can do to turn things around.

Ultimately, is it worth staying here while slowly looking for greener pastures or is it better to jump ship asap?

Unless HON divests (spins off or sells) UOP you are holding out hope for something that isn't going to happen.

Let's expand on how to move up at UOP. First, helps to have a british accent and be favored by the now paint executive. Second never sell a single thing and volunteer to move to run another business. Third continue the streak to ruin 2 businesses and finally get invited back to lead the business that you never sold anything in. Now thats impressive.

I immediately thought of the comment about the British guy destroying two UOP business units. The fact he’s given an opportunity to do it to a third one shows you all you need to know about where UOP is heading. Prayers to the victims and their families.

Someday UOP will be a business school case study on the downfall of a clear #1 or dominant leader in the technology space. Reading through many of the previous posts will unlock the secrets of how this trusted century old technology company was run into the ground in a matter of 24-36 months. A few of the comments that seem to be common (in no particular order):
• Honeywell applied a different corporate culture where it wasn’t necessarily needed
• Got rid of people who were ‘known’ or stalwarts of the industry and watered down the training of their replacements – letting go of 30-40% of your staff in this space basically puts you out of business
• Constantly rewarding people who have clear track records of not doing anything or flat out ruining business – find the comment of the British guy that ruined 2 businesses
• Bringing in weird people from Honeywell to ‘lead’ or put in very good positions to be trained by legacy people – never works out
• Keeping the headquarters in Des Plaines – trying to be fair. Lived my whole life around here but it makes no sense why the HQ isn’t in a place like Houston.
Just a few observations and I’m sure you all can add… Don’t think this will be a career place for me.

UOP is a perfect example of how you can destroy a beautiful company in 10 years time.
My plan was to stay and collect the severance package. That worked out beautifully. Riffed in may, collected, 2 weeks off and started working elsewhere.

Good days are gone. People with 20+ years experience are replaced by students in India. Good luck with that, as clients know that too. I hear from previous contacts that UOP faces a head wind for new projects.
Management is probably still making excel sheets which show how well they are doing.....they aren't.

Keep your CV updated, keep in touch with recruiters. Leave if you have a better offer. If not....hang in, collect and move on. I did!

"Do you guys think UOP can recover it's glory days with the new management changes that are occurring?"

Absolutely not. They're trying to create as much chaos as possible to get people in the U.S. to quit so they don't have to pay severance. With that cost savings they continue to expand headcount in India. There are plenty of green business companies that aren't owned by HON.

"is it worth staying here while slowly looking for greener pastures or is it better to jump ship asap?"

My advice is to stay there while QUICKLY looking for greener pastures. I wouldn't jump ship asap without other offers on the table. That choice is yours to make.

Mega trends win. Right or wrong Oil is a three letter shorthand for Evil.

All fronts will attack anything related to oil including plastics of all types and petro fuels.
Oil is about to have its 3mileisland/chernobyl/fukashima moment in history.
Production will continue but the glory is gone. I am a die hard skeptic and i still bought 50kwh (more than i need on any day) of solar, storage, inverters, and and a tesla3 over the last 3 years. Lusting over those new pickups.

Best if UOP can be on its own or have different owners then Honeywell. So much can be said what Honeywell did to UOP make down turn all who been working over 20 years know what's going on. Sad
