Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Why would IBM need to layoff massively? Droves of people are leaving on their own!

@1iej,

Why can't young people of color learn rudimentary skills to perform their jobs?
Is the old white guy preventing them from learning the basics?
You are racist bruh

“ Cause the wrong age group is quitting. They need the older ones to quit.”

Can confirm. That’s why they did the relocation cráp. Get rid of the old dogs that don’t want to learn new tricks. Easy to spot them on this forum. Why are old white guys so averse to learning new technology? Are you that set in your way that you don’t want something to replace that tech you learned and know from 10 years ago?

Easy answer. IBM needs to lose more people and associated costs than the people leaving voluntarily. Thus, the need for layoffs. Very different than Microsoft, Google or any newer tech company. Slow death march for IBM.

Can anyone who has received an offer from Kyndryl share how the Kyndryl benefits package compares to IBM. There was some talk of IRA match going down to 2% at Kyndryl. Don’t know if that’s true or not. Does anyone know if moving to Kyndryl triggers a retirement from IBM when you hire onto Kyndryl. Again just curious as to how IBM handles the transition between companies

It’s two fold

  1. The older population within IBM still isn’t leaving at the attrition rates that IBM desires. (IBM can influence this via changing the defined/hybrid pension plan once and for all). There are not that many folks left on the plan, but the liability is still quite large for a workforce that continues to age out skills wise.
  2. The wrong skills are departing. The hyperscalers offer approx 30-40% higher compensation for the same kind of work. This also has a corollary which is IBM cannot attract the corresponding skill sets needed to transition the company to AK’s vision.

The good ones are leaving. I’m getting farewell emails every week at this point.

IBM is forcing relocation/resignation for several people.
The mass resignation's will be millions cheaper than layoffs.
