Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

So we are on a hiring freeze but you hire a new EVP and promote others to EVP?

All I ask is for Cisco to make it make sense? We can’t hire the people to do the work but your promote and hire the chiefs to bark orders to get the work done? None of this makes any logical or reasonable sense. An oxymoron at best!

For those used to privilege, any step towards equality sounds like oppression.

I know that according to CRT dogma, merit is privilege, and equity is equality, but the real world still sees it differently.

Jealous people will always complain about those being promoted no matter what. ... For those used to privilege, any step towards equality sounds like oppression.

The OP's point was that why is there a hiring freeze to "prevent LR's" but Cisco is promoting executives to EVP's and paying them more $'s.

Our team said there wasn't enough budget to give promotions or pay bumps this year to the team. I guess we know why...to pay for the EVP's promotions.

I'm all for merit based promotions and race/s-x equality. There aren't enough women in my field. And I know they're capable of the work.

Jealous people will always complain about those being promoted no matter what. Cisco still has more than 70% of the employees and executives identified as males, and people are still whining about women getting promoted? For those used to privilege, any step towards equality sounds like oppression.

She may be very qualified. I don't know.
I wonder how she feels about Chuck publicly touting her as a diversity hire instead of her ability to contribute and make an impact at Cisco. It looks insulting to me.

That’s the problem with quotas. Even us pigs realize that if you promote based on innate characteristics, then even those with merit will be assumed to have only made it by filling in a diversity box.
It’s like if a worker gets promoted if she’s sleeping with the boss. She or he may well deserve the promotion, but just about everybody assumes it’s for other reasons.
In our BU we’ve just been through a round of women promotions. Even 1-2 who didn’t wish to be promoted were bumped for quota reasons. I haven’t seen a male promoted yet.

I missed the Webex.

The hiring of EVP from MSFT is public knowledge. So who internally was promoted to EVP?

Cisco needs more EVPs to compete with AWS and Azure.

Cisco is not a performance based company. Switch companies if you don't like it. There's nothing wrong with these EVPs buying a 5th house while laying off thousands of American workers.

Seriously? People complaining about attractiveness? Gtfo here. Measure someone on their ability to do a job. An executive woman (or man) isn’t there to be your eye candy.
