Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Hybrid work model or work from home will NEVER happen at ExxonMobil

Folks, this decision has been made at the ‘highest’ level by inbred freaks that lead our company.

There nothing anyone can really do about it. So stop asking for it.

Entire world and companies are waking up to new reality but the disgusting self serving ‘leaders’ at ExxonMobil care least about their employees and thier personal loves and mental sanity. Dinosaurs.

Full-time WFH or even the hybrid approach will never happen at XOM.

Not when you have POS managers like the “beloved” Dr Syrup sending out e-mails telling everyone how much HE’S looking forward to seeing them in the corridors of Clinton (when he doesn’t walk those corridors anyway), or how vitally important it is to our “collaborations and synergies” to be back in the offices, laboratories and meeting rooms and see each other “face-to-face” (while wearing mandatory masks).

Honestly, such BS - he won’t collaborate anyone unless they can give him a ride in the IBM helicopter or make a promotional video featuring him. Under his so-called “leadership”, CSR and the entire Clinton site has become a festering swamp.

But I’ve heard numerous managers say that we need to be “location agnostic”. And they they say we have to be in our chair at the campus. Which is it?

WFH was probably the best thing for employee morale for a period of time there, funny it’s not even on the table in the middle of an undisputed morale crisis throughout the company. Management is doing the equivalent of putting a g-n to employees head screaming “BE HAPPY ALREADY” with all the placating they do during those forums, makes us not want to even speak about the dissatisfaction we feel at work. That’s why this is one of the most active forums on this website… no where else to scream into the void except commiserate with each other anonymously.

Exxon should use the work from home model and reduction in business travel as an example of reducing green house gas emissions. Not sure management is that progressive thinking.

Most tech companies are pulling away from work from home models. Wait until the end of the year and you will see progressive companies move away from WFH as well.

The work from home issue at Exxon is something right out of a Dilbert comic. Your managers cannot really approve anything labeled work from home at least officially. However, employees can use the workplace flexibility program at the employees discretion and/or risk. Managers most often have no problem with how you use the work flexibility program as long as it does not impact your work. But everyone wonders how it impacts your ranking.

When the dust settles in 5 years and most Houston jobs are in India, the remaining roles will be ones to be onsite. Then after a full day onsite you will be at home on late night calls with India. Good luck slaving away for this POS company.

Lets be honest. Most people at XOM dont do real work anyways. The work that matters has to be done in the office. Which is brown nosying and showing up to useless meetings. And power walking to be seen and heard!

Care? Ask HR to learn how CARE is being redefined by our leaders here, you will be amazed to find that out.

Nope, it would NEVER! I heard managers proudly saying, "It would never happen". Especially, it wont happen right now when the goal is to reduce the workforce. Easy for mgmt. to use this to continue attrition to tag someone that demand WFH to be pipped.

I’ve never had a problem working from home on days when I needed, or even wanted to. Yeah they probably won’t ever approve a set schedule but I’m fine with that.
