Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Where was Fran at yesterday’s call

Where was Fran at yesterday’s call? I missed her patronising fake smile behind that big nose as she and Chuck would smirk psychotically at thousands of people getting laid off, losing their livelihood with families to feed, mortgages and bills to pay. Those laughters on calls at hapless, hard working folks whose livelihoods they took while giving themselves fat bonuses . Where did you go Fran? Come back! I wanna see you smirk

Who cares about engineering quality? The objective is to cut costs. If India can churn out cheaper products & services... they fit the Cisco model.

The objective is to cut costs... increase stock buybacks and maintain a high dividend yield. No one cares about product quality or customer satisfaction at Cisco.

@prn+1bBBJakd Given what most sane people know about the education system I would say most teachers are incompetent, over paid baby sitters anyways,

@scs+1bBBJakd The reason they keep hiring in india is because it takes 10 low paid, incompetent engineers from there to get one simple bug scrub done to a point where a US domestic resource can attempt to correct it. They usually hire 40 software people from there that couldn't code their way out of a wet paper bag then leave it for customers and CX architects and engineers to test and debug it. Putting faith in anything done from there was one of the largest mistakes the company has made to date next to promoting chuckie boy and hiring maria and alvio. yager is also a knucklehead that needs to go.

Perhaps Cisco should hire a "contractor" to run HR!

When Fran stops being frigid towards Chuck. CR needs some TLC. He complained on the last call that Fran was not around.

They aren't going to announce anything until at least the earnings call in August. I am sure the rumor mill here will provide the actual LR date before that though. Until the earnings call, everything is awesome with the ELT.

Was another massive layoff announced?

Not yet. They said the hiring freeze was to prevent over hiring that would result in a larger than necessary layoff.

Employees are an expense on their balance sheet and nothing more. When looking at the balance sheet for ways to make fast improvements, headcount is the biggest number. It is as simple as that.

And when companies take that short sighted approach and ki-l off those that have the knowledge & experience within the company of how systems work together, so much stuff breaks when it's time do to system or application upgrades because no one is left to understand all the dependencies. Same w/ teachers. By cutting their budgets, freezing their pay, etc., you're driving out the ones that have learned how to handle larger & larger groups of children effectively and having to hire new teachers w/ no experience yet who have to find out the hard way that life isn't like what they taught in school. Our kids suffer through a less effective education system and we churn out more kids that can't handle life after school.

No wonder our nation is declining just like Cisco is.

".. When looking at the balance sheet for ways to make fast improvements, headcount is the biggest number. .."

That's only the case if you acknowledge you're convinced there's no growth ahead and as a leader you have simply no growth strategy to offset the commodization of your main business. Which basically means you s*ck as a C-level. You have zero innovation ideas, you just manage a slow death and milk it for your own benefit. Welcome to the CSCO executive suite, where subpar "leaders" do exactly that.

But generally I agree that the faster employees accept that they are just mercenaries looking out for themselves... the better. The social contract was broken a long time ago.

I get what everyone is saying. However, in almost all publicly traded companies, the Exec team does not care one bit about employees. Employees are an expense on their balance sheet and nothing more. When looking at the balance sheet for ways to make fast improvements, headcount is the biggest number. It is as simple as that. The same thing happens with the State you live in. When the budget doesn't balance, where do they attack? That's right, teacher salaries. It is the biggest burden on the State. The same goes for the lottery money. "Well, we are $1B off budget. Lets look at the Education budget. They got $4B before the lottery, $5B after the lottery money. Cut education down to $4.2B and we are good enough on the budget."

Until employees start to see themselves as nothing more than an expense to a business, then there is no hope. Start treating the company with as much loyalty as they give the employees and you will finally see change in your life. You will reassess, look for better opportunities, and just leave them without a care in the world.

She took a personal shopping day. What's the use of laying all those people off and getting fat bonuses if you can't load up on $2000 outfits and $1000 handbags?
